Is it prompting you to create one, or enter an existing one?

thats what I did first, all it did was return to windows asking 'provide a password'. I already knew your method, Edwin, as used successfully several times in the past when reinstalling etc.

    golden: create one

i just tried space bar and enter 'that password is incorrect' please enter your microsoft password!!!! why? I only use that for my live.com email? I'll try it and reboot see if it asks again .....................

damn - now it opens every time asking for password - I will strip win 10 from laptop rather than do this every time, ? I DONT WANT IT.

tried forgot password - still no go so going to reinstall win and hope for the best. I dont want this and do not like MS insisting I have it

you're previous post asked a question create or existing.

as the required pass was 'extensive' i have replaced it with a pin until I can solve it.

Using a local account without a password, Windows will never (I repeat: absolutely never!) require a Microsoft account password.

You have clearly switched to a Microsoft account. It can happen "accidentally" for instance when adding a Microsoft account (Live, MSN, Hotmail, Outlook) to Mail or any other MS app and not reading all the prompts, just accepting everything. One of those prompts asks if user wants to use that account to sign in to Windows.

The simple solution is to sign in to Windows with MS account password, then switch to a local account: Switch to Local Account in Windows 10

OK sorted it out. When I installed the windows upgrade, it had switched ON the tick box at the top of the image. I know it was off before. Then I followed instructions in 'how to remove windows log in' via google and opened bottom option,a remove option is there, told it to remove it, I had to use password twice, then it said removed. I then had to remove the pin number settings, accounts, options, I had just put in and switched laptop off. Waited a minute then re started laptop - NO log in!! Kari, thanks for that tip also, will try and remember it.
