Options to create a bootable Windows 10 iso with GPT partion

In November 2019 A bootable Windows 10 iso was created on a computer with UEFI/GPT.

The bootable Windows 10 iso couldn't be used to perform a custom install as the computer displayed:

Windows cannot be installed on this disk.
The selected disk is of the GPT partition style.

Diskpart lis dis displayed MBR partition with FAT32.

Are all of these workable options?

    a) conversion MBR to GPT on the flash drive without data loss
    b) conversion MBR to GPT on the flash drive with data loss
    c) command line to create GPT with FAT32 followed by copy and paste from a desktop iso
    d) Rufus or other third party software
    e) disk management
    f) other options?

The computer has MiniTool Partition Wizard Pro 11.5
Convert MBR to GPT without data loss with a free Partition Magic

What would be the command line commands?

    diskpart
list dis (determine the disk # for the flash drive)
select disk W (replace W with the drive # for the flash drive)
    clean
    convert GPT
    create partition primary
format fs=FAT32 or (format fs=FAT32 quick?)
    assign
    exit

What would happen if each assign and/or active and/or quick are used or not used?

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/win...ommands/assign

Convert MBR Disk to GPT Disk in Windows 10

Would copy and paste of a desktop windows 10 iso to the flash drive then make it work as a bootable windows 10 iso GPT/FAT32?

The error message you get has nothing to do with your USB drive.

DISKPART LIST DISK shows an asterisk in last, GPT column if the disk is GPT, no asterisk for MBR disk:

Options to create a bootable Windows 10 iso with GPT partion-image.png

In your case, the HDD is GPT, and the USB drive MBR. The most probable cause for your error message is that the computer is a legacy BIOS device, not UEFI. If so, you should convert the HDD (Disk 0) to MBR for installation to work. On BIOS devices, Windows cannot be installed on GPT partitioned disk.

The problematic computer is UEFI /GPT and the iso is MBR.
    Sorry for any confusion.
The computer used to run the diskpart command was not the problematic computer and it was to display the flash drive information.

It would appear to me that you have Legacy CSM support enabled in BIOS
Which means the PC booted the USB in Legacy Mode....
If you have USB as the first Boot Device - Disable Legacy CSM Support - the PC will then Boot That USB in UEFI Mode..

If you have the option to select the USB via F12 upon Booting - select the UEFI-USB

The USB being Fat32 & MBR - has no issue with booting Legacy or UEFI
The Media will Boot in either Mode

With your current HDD in GPT format and the Media having been Booted into Legacy Mode - is the reason for that error message.. Same would be true the other way around too...

The way to overcome that message would be to reboot the Media in the Correct Mode for the HDD disk format..
Or Clean the HDD of it's current format..

It's working on updates with "Don't turn your computer off".
When it completes I'll check the BIOS settings.

The boot mode is: UEFI Hybrid (with CSM)

The Windows 10 iso was made by the Microsoft website:
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10

    It's in MBR / FAT32

It has a mismatch MBR to GPT preventing the custom install:

Can the flash drive be converted from MBR to GPT to allow the custom install?

As has been stated multiple times, and now again, the USB flash drive being MBR has NOTHING to do with your problem! The problem is that you have CSM mode enabled and you are booting the flash drive in CSM (legacy BIOS) mode. Boot the flash drive in UEFI mode and your problem will be solved.

The boot mode was changed from UEFI hybrid to UEFI native.

    Booting to the iso now.

    That fixed the mismatch!

    Thank you

Would the conversion of the flash drive to GPT fail to create a bootable Windows 10 iso GPT / FAT32?
If it did work would it have been able to perform a custom install while in UEFI hybrid?

Just to clarify for those who see this thread
    - Windows (7, 8.x or 10) can be installed as Legacy - MBR or EFI - GPT (64 bits only)
    - To install as EFI - GPT, "BIOS" must be EFI mode.
    - To install as Legacy - MBR, "BIOS" must be Legacy or EFI CSM mode.
    - To install as Legacy - MBR, the installation drive must be booted as Legacy (Legacy or EFI CSM BIOS)
    - To install as EFI - GPT, the installation drive must be booted as EFI (on EFI BIOS)
    - To boot as EFI, a USB installation drive to must be formatted as Fat32, not NTFS

    - If you boot the installation drive as EFI and your target drive is MBR you must first delete all partitions to be able to create a GPT drive and then install as EFI - GPT.
    - If you boot the installation drive as Legacy and your target drive is GPT you must first delete all partitions to be able to create a MBR drive and then install as Legacy - MBR.
