I TOTALLY agree.

That is definitely going to have a detrimental affect on the roll out for users who can NOT afford the price of new hardware, and to be honest, why should they.

I think a big aspect of this is to generate income for the computer manufacturers, who will jump on the bandwagon with the logo something along the lines of "New OS, New Computer".

That is why I think people will stick with Win 10 for the foreseeable future.

I can NOT understand why MS have gone down this route!

It may well be Matthew, but why should Users HAVE to spend money, and HOURS of their time [ which some will have to PAY for the Motherboard to be changed by an IT Technician ], to get up and running?

As far as I can recall, Microsoft has never forced any user to "upgrade" their OS to the latest available||Indeed they have often kept support in place for many years after the new OS is released. Of course the nature of the IT industry does mean that a lot of users will upgrade as soon as possible and thus there is a risk that hardware manufacturers will not provide drivers for new hardware after a new OS takes off.

Yes this cycle is led by commercial force as every business wants to make money. you will see exaggerated following of this route as was seen when Vista replaced XP. and companies such as Creative took a stance that they "could not " update the XP drivers for use with vista, although most other manufacturers had no issues.

The announcement of an end to support for Windows 10 during 2025 is actually a strict application of the existing Microsoft support system of five years of full support followed with five years extended support for each OS. Windows 10 was released [or escaped ]. in 2015 so ten years support would end in 2025

Behaviour, not so much, it's very much a 'next' version of Windows 10 rather than the giddy jumps from 7 to 8 to 10. But it can measure the startup impact in Task Manager again

As you would expect more has appeared in Settings, the above being a case in point. Settings > Apps > Startup now displays the startup impact too.

The biggest change is a complete redesign of the Start menu - for a start there are no more Live Tiles and it's now in the middle of the taskbar by default, though you can shift it back to the left in Settings.
