    Failed to upgrade from 1709 with In Place/Repair Upgrade


    First things first, my winver is 1709 Build 16299.192
    I have been stuck at updating for over 2 years, finally i was unable to upgrade my nvidia driver forces me to find a way through this.

    These 4 method doesnt seem to work: FIX: Windows 10 Update 1903 failed to install (Solved) - wintips.org - Windows Tips & How-tos
    Method 1. Force Windows to Download again the Windows 10 Update v1903 by deleting SoftwareDistribution
    Method 2. Manually Upgrade Windows 10 to version 1903 with Upgrade Assistant.
    Method 3. FIX Windows corruption errors with DISM & SFC tools.
    Method 4. Install Windows 10 v1903 Update with an IN-Place Upgrade.

    Then i have found this post Windows 10 Update keeps failing 0x8007001F - 0x20006
    I had the exact same error code and he was able to do in-place upgrade with the original window build version.
    So i gave it a try, installing Win10_1709_Chinese(Traditional)_x64.iso and failed as well.
    This is the setuperr from C:\$WINDOWS.~BT

    Seems tonnes of error prevented me from updating.

    Any and all help is much appreciated!

    Hi, you say these commands failed, if I understand correctly:
    Method 3. FIX Windows corruption errors with DISM & SFC tools.
    Can we go back a step and run a couple of very elementary checks please?

    a. Check your disk: Download and run
    Download Portable HD Tune 2.55
    Health and Error scan tabs

    b. If ok, run
    chkdsk c: /scan
    from an admin command or Powershell prompt

    c. Post a screenshot of all your disks and partitions using a 3rd party partition manager (not Disk Management) e.g. Minitool Partition Wizard making sure all text is visible.

    Is Windows Update working, and have you ever been offered an upgrade from 1709 via WU?

    Please note that the many threads here attempting to analyse upgrade failures- some over many days back and forth, including extensive log and data collection- often fail to resolve the issue as the logs are not diagnostic.

    You can try running this tool:

    What security software are you running?

    What error message was reported on the screen?

    This appears to be a failiure very early on- in the first downlevel phase:

    Downlevel phase: Because this phase runs on the source OS, upgrade errors are not typically seen. If you do encounter an error, ensure the source OS is stable. Also ensure the Windows setup source and the destination drive are accessible.

    Yes, 1903 is available in WU, but it never worked with error code 0x80240034 and message "We can’t install some updates because other updates are in progress. Restarting your computer may help, and we’ll keep trying to update."
    Tried to delete Software Distribution Folder and let it re-download again ; doesnt help.

    These are the CBS, Panther Logs and Rollback Logs, Tell me if i need to run any more test or logs. Much Thanks!

    In my SetupDiag,
    SetupDiag : Recommend you check the "Windows Modules Installer" service (Trusted Installer) is started on the system and set to automatic start, reboot and try the update again. Optionally, you can check the status of optional components on the system (search for Windows Features), uninstall any unneeded optional components, reboot and try the update again. Which in my Windows, I dont have any Windows Feature and appears blank.

    One more thing, Windows does not allow me to change language settings with a download language pack fail. 0x80240022

    However it looks as if your installation is in some way significantly corrupt as you can tell.

    That 1903 has been offered at least indicates WU is working and your PC is deemed potentially compatible.

    There may be a common element relating
    error code 0x80240034 and message "We can’t install some updates because other updates are in progress.
    and

    If it is the same as mine, that's all we can do. But it seems something is amiss with being able to install updates.

    Please follow this:
    Reset Windows Update in Windows 10

    Then try the in-place upgrade repair of 1709 again - with the internet disconnected (i.e. no additional updates).

    Run setupdiag.exe again and see if there's any change.

    I really rather feel you should prepare to do a clean install, especially given some of your symptoms and how long you've had problems.

    The first suggestion again points to TrustedInstaller. Did you say you can't start it as shown in the video?

    The second is just SFC /SCANNOW which you've done.

    Feel free to try the DISM command given after that if you've not already.
