Just to be clear, if you install Windows 10 directly onto a clean hard drive from the USB on a system that has never had an activated Windows 10 on it, you will need to deal with getting it activated and/or buying a license.

If you have a license for Windows 7 and you want to upgrade to Windows 10 for free then you need to run the Windows 10 installation starting from the activated Windows 7 desktop.
That means you would need to install Windows 7, get it activated, then install Windows 10 from the USB stick made from the Media Creation Tool.
Upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 7 for Free

You may still be able to activate Windows 10 with a Windows 7 license, but since Windows 7 has reached end of life there are lots of us who wonder how long that will remain true. But note that this method requires you to find and backup a folder from your Windows 7 installation, so it will not be an option in your case.

Months ago, I used GParted to delete all Linux Mint partitions and then clean-installed Windows 10 via Win10XPE. The data partition remained unchanged.

If your computer had a pre-installed Windows 7 then it also had
1 A means of reinstalling Windows 7 [such as a factory restore partition or an OEM's installation disk], AND
2 A Certificate of authenticity, fixed to the computer, which contains a Windows 7 Product key with which to activate Windows 7.

Either of these can form the basis for your Windows 10 installation.

Why do you want to install Win 7 then Win 10?
Did the computer once had Win 10?

Once you make a Win 10 boot able installation disk, boot from it, go to install, advanced, delete ALL partitions till you have one and only one unallocated space and then proceed.
    - If you had Win 10, skip to enter the key.
    - If it never had Win 10, when asked, enter the Win 7 key.

In post #9 the OP says: "So I want to grab the update from win 7 to 10."

I just wanted to be sure they were aware of the activation issue ahead of time to avoid unneeded disappointment.

I didn't want to put win 7 on it I knew it was done being supported and planed on updating when I got it back. I thought I was getting it with 7 still on it, I quickly discovered it was gone.
So in looking at Win 10, I have to get some memory if I hope to load it.
Can someone suggest some mid-priced memory, I have to order it the places near me don't carry it anymore, Office Max, Best Buy.

Is this all the info needed, I only have a total of 4G now. Huge thanks to everyone.😊

Why do you think you need more than 4GB of RAM for Windows 10?

Why buy RAM locally? Much better prices if you buy it off the internet. Amazon, Crucial, Ebay even.
