upgrade problems from win7 to win10

Hi, upgrading errors are very often impossible to resolve even after days of iterative effort and detailed submission of log files and more.

You haven't specified your PC, or offered details of its driver page, or its age.

I will assume you haven't been offered Win 10 by Windows update. If not, that's for a very good reason- it's probably incompatible. Trying to upgrade manually avoids some of the checks. Upgrading any PC that is not specified for or supported for Win 10 is entirely at the owners risk with no guarantees whatsoever.

You say you have 2 bootable drives on the system: that's exactly what you should not have. One of the standard recommendations in the face of problems is to only have your system disk installed/connected.

The second problem was Windows then reported that the "System Reserved" volume (of the non booted disk)

- can you see the hint there?

More: uninstall any 3rd party security software, disconnect unnecessary hardware, make sure you have at least 30Gb free on C: , check your disk and file system (utility and chkdsk respectively); run SFC /SCANNOW from an admin prompt.

Further: note file explorer searchis partly broken by MS in build 1909; build 1903 is fine.
Create a disk image before attempting to upgrade in case of dramatic failure. (Routine use of imaging strongly recommended).

Some older machines when upgraded lose access to certain hardware as there's no compatible driver. Some require the use of older drivers. A few work well with one build of Win 10, and not the next.

Consider- if it's working with Win 7- is it worth it?

I've suggested some basic steps... but no guarantees that will help. The tutorial has details if you work thru the section on resolving errors- the logs are not diagnostic.

You can increase it to 1Gb - should be plenty. I understand that MS is moving the Recovery partition and placing it after C: finally, instead of before to permit resizing. But upgrades such as yours are DIY.

An E-Mail Newsletter today reported the major AntiVirus publishers [about 8 or 10] will be keeping their programs up-to-date for 2 more years.

i have posed the question to minitool support, will report back. Support was useless, suggested not to make any changes at all. What is the point of the tool?

Using easybcd, i have moved the bcd, then deleted the srp. Trying the upgrade again, with only one drive accessible. If it fails again, I guess it's time for a new pc!
