    Upgrade to Windows 10

Tried to upgrade three straight times, but it fails at 88% of Installing every time, with the "second_boot" and "migrate _data" described as why it failed! What does that mean??

Hi, diagnosing upgrade failures is uncertain. If you look at some of the threads, after much detailed investigation over days there's no positive result.

So no simple answer. You've not stated your PC model or whether you've found evidence others have upgraded it successfully to Win 10.

There is some useful comment on the error message you report here:
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/win...upgrade-errors

    Standard recommendations for preparation include:
    Check your disk (utility)
    Check your file system (chkdsk)
Run SFC /SCANNOW from an admin prompt
    Uninstall any security software
    Disconnect any unnecessary peripherals
Create a disk image just in case of dramatic failure
Ensure you have at least 30Gb free on C:

Try downloading an iso using MS's media creation tool and upgrading WITHOUT accepting updates.

You haven't stated whether you have ever been offered Win 10 via Windows Update. If not, that indicates your PC/software/hardware may not be compatible.
