    Windows 7 upgrade to 10 error 0x8007001F - 0x3000D

Repeatedly getting this same error, and rollback to Windows 7. Any help most appreciated! SetupDiag, Disk Management, Minitool Partition Wizard files here. Log-collector gave an error--screencap attached.

    No non-Microsoft antivirus installed.

One other wrinkle: my motherboard's network input is fried, so I am using a network-USB adapter for internet--the upshot being that I can't unplug *all* USB devices (except keyboard/mouse) during the download phase of the update. I did try unplugging it after the download, and got the same error as usual.

Hi, one basic comment: you only have <14Gb free on C: and your system disk is very small compared to the others.
There is a useful tutorial on how to save space. Note that Win 10 will require to create one or more further partitions.

You need about 30-35Gb - Windows.old will be created, that's about as big as your existing Windows folder.

    Further:
I can't unplug *all* USB devices (except keyboard/mouse) during the download phase of the update.
Note that you can choose NOT to accept updates as part of the upgrade seqence- indeed you can disconnect the internet.
This can occasionally be a significant help.

Please perform the following basic checks:
    Download and run
Hard Disk Sentinel (trial) and use that to check each disk.
It gives an instant informative statement right on its GUI- the best I know.

    If all is ok, run
    chkdsk c: /scan
from an admin command or Powershell prompt and report the result.

Please provide the model number of your PC and the manufacturer's driver download page.
Check to see if there's a BIOS update available.

Search and advise if there is any evidence of your PC having been upgraded successfully.

A user called @zbook will most likely take this further.
Note that upgrade failures may take days of back and forth effort and may not be resolved.

Your main problem is that you don't have enough free space on your SSD.
From your image I can see that the Page File is on drive H:. Did you also moved \Users to that disk?

Before you do anything, detach ALL other drives (SATA or power cable) from the MB or you may end with part of the OS in one disk and part in another disk.
My suggestion is to clone the SSD into a HDD bigger than 100G.
Than do the upgrade on the HDD.
After the installation you will have a Windows.old with Win 7 on it. (~35G)
Run disk clean up to clean all installations files and the Windows.old.
Clone the HDD (now with Win 10) into the SSD.

    Code
    8007001F - 0x3000D
    Cause
The installation failed in the FIRST_BOOT phase with an error during MIGRATE_DATA operation.

    Mitigation

Analyze log files in order to determine the files or registry entries that are blocking data migration.

This error can be due to a problem with user profiles. It can occur due to corrupt registry entries under HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList or invalid files in the \Users directory.

    Note

If a previous upgrade did not complete, invalid profiles might exist in the Windows.old\Users directory.

To repair this error, ensure that deleted accounts are not still present in the Windows registry and that files under the \Users directory are valid. Delete the invalid files or user profiles that are causing this error. The specific files and profiles that are causing the error will be recorded in the Windows setup log files.

Thanks very much for this. I'm working on this list--it will take more time than I have tonight--but the last part caught my eye:

I looked up the error and found the relevant log (MigLog.xml). It's 95MB, so here's a link. One thing that might be in play here: my user directory and some programs are installed on a different drive (E:\Offdrive) than Windows (C:). (I did this to save room on the SSD because back when I bought it to install my OS on, they were pretty spendy.) I'm not savvy enough to know whether that's the problem, nor what can be done if it is. Thoughts?

The error code may change after completing many steps followed by a new upgrade attempt.

For the latest upgrade attempt these were two noted problems:
    a) free drive space insufficient
    b) Microsoft security essentials was still installed (do not uninstall until the next upgrade attempt)

When available please upload the results of the DM log collector.

This is a checklist to run through before the next upgrade attempt. (It was composed for Windows 10 upgrade failures and some commands need to be modified or removed for Windows seven)

Log troubleshooting can be very time consuming and tedious.
So the tune up is performed followed by upgrades.

    Code:
    UPGRADE CHECK LIST:
Run through this check list before the next upgrade attempt:

    1) remove nonessential hardware
    docks
    USB devices
    printers
    headset
    speakers
    joysticks
    projectors
    scanners
    plotters
    portable optical drives (CD, DVD)
    microphones
    cameras
    webcams
    smartphones
    bluetooth devices
USB drives (other than a windows 10 iso if used for the upgrade)
USB Wireless Mouse or Keyboard Receiver, USB Wireless Network Card
    secondary monitors

    2) These should be the only attached devices:
    wired mouse
    wired keyboard
    monitor

Any of these that have been done in the past week are not necessary to repeat:

    3) open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste: (repair file system)
    chkdsk /r /v
This may take many hours so plan to run overnight
Find the chkdsk report in the event viewer using the information in this link and post into the thread:
Read Chkdsk Log in Event Viewer in Windows 10 Performance Maintenance Tutorials
    https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/40822-read-chkdsk-log-event-viewer-windows-10-a.html

    4) open administrative command prompt and copy and paste: (repair operating system)
    sfc /scannow
    dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
When these have completed > right click on the top bar or title bar of the administrative command prompt box > left click on edit then select all > right click on the top bar again > left click on edit then copy > paste into the thread

    5) update windows (have all recommended updates installed) and reboot after updates

    6) List and uninstall all non-Microsoft antivirus software
(This includes always on and manual software.)
(This includes running the applicable antivirus uninstall tools for any AV that could have been incompletely uninstalled)

    7) List and uninstall all non-Microsoft firewall software

    8) List all Microsoft and non-Microsoft drive encryption software.
Uninstall all non-Microsoft disk encryption software

    9) Run disk cleanup to clean temporary and system files

    10) Verify that the drive has > 30 GB free space (At least 25 GB is needed for creating dumps)

    11) Place the computer in clean boot:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/929135/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows

    https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/41804-perform-clean-boot-windows-10-troubleshoot-software-conflicts.html

    12) Detach all SATA devices other than the disk drive that has the Windows operating system
(Make sure that the only disk drive that is attached to the computer at the time of the upgrade attempt is the disk drive containing Windows)
(Other disk drives may be able to be detached by disconnecting cables or if necessary to remove the drive from the computer)

    13) Make sure that there is no metered connection: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17452/windows-metered-internet-connections-faq

I had similar problems like this as well when I was experimenting on what 10 would install on and not enough space is most likely your problem. It was for me as well and it takes up conciderably more space than its former flavors.
While your at it before attempting again make a complete backup of all your drivers and there are a number of free driver collector utilities out there that work. I just did a fresh install on my Acer Aspire One netbook and the one glitch was my SD card reader wasn't detected and wasn't working. I had my Win7 drivers backed up including a driver utility for the card reader and for laughs I selected it, it installed and Bing! My card reader was installed and I now have an extra drive indicated.
Hard drives have come down in price including SSD so I would get a much larger 1TB or larger to give you future options.
