0x8007042B - 0x2000D Error trying to Upgrade to Win 10 from Win 7 Pro
Hi.
I'm not a tech or computer expert; thanks for your assistance.
I'm running Windows 7 Professional SP1 and am trying to upgrade to Windows 10.
To upgrade I went to https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10 and downloaded and ran the media creation tool.
When I run it, I'm choosing to upgrade the PC and keep personal files and apps.
On multiple attempts to upgrade I keep getting the following error:
"0x8007042B - 0x2000D The installation failed in the SAFE_OS Phase with an error during MIGRATE_DATA operation"
To try to fix the problem:
I uninstalled a bunch of software that I didn't use regularly and restarted the computer.
The only anti-viruses I've used in years are Malwarebytes and Microsoft Security Essentials; I uninstalled both.
I've unplugged all peripherals: Printer, external hard drives, headphones, microphone, etc. I even unplugged my Logitech mouse dongle the last time I tried to upgrade and got the same error.
SetupDiag: On my last attempt I ran SetupDiag using the /Verbose parameter and it produced a .log entry which I've attached in a .txt file. (It says there is a fatal migration plug-in failure. Plug-in Name = %windir%\system32\migration\SxsMigPlugin.dll.)
I saw that there as a post on a different thread where someone said they were getting the same error message and SetupDiag identified the same plug-in as being the problem. That user said they solved it by deleting c:\windows\system32\migration. I haven't done that yet because I don't know enough about computers to know if that might cause problems. (I know you're not supposed to mess with anything in your system32 folder.) Can I delete that folder and try to upgrade again?
Please let me know if anybody has any suggestions or if you need any other information before you can suggest something. Thank you.
