"Making Sure You're ready to Install"

    Hi All,
I have been trying to upgrade to windows 10 from windows 7 Pro for days. It has been stuck at "Making Sure You're ready to Install" for hours (Let it run overnight). I want to upgrade rather than clean install. I have tried this latest time with no internet connection because it was stuck at 46%. I used the Media Creation Tool about 5 times. I downloaded [not booted] the file from a USB stick that I made using Media Creation Tool.
    Any suggestions are appreciated.

    Thank You ,
    Tom

Hi, have you been offered Win 10 via Windows Update? (If so, that means MS considers your PC compatible).

If so, please start with this and the preparatory steps following before trying again:
    Upgrade to Windows 10
    See the
    Here's How:
section (points 1&2), then this section:

    Resolve Windows 10 upgrade errors

In preparing your PC to upgrade, I suggest
    - make sure you have a current disk image of Windows (e.g. Macrium Reflect - free-paid) + large enough external storage for disk images. That will make sure you always have a way back should things go horribly wrong- and occasionally they can.
    - the act of imaging all partitions comprising Windows actually verifies all used sectors are readable- useful to be sure of that.
    - make sure you have, say, 30Gb free on C: - Windows.old will be created and take about as much space as Windows.
    - don't just disable- uninstall any 3rd party security software. Occasionally remnants cause issues,
    - try doing a clean boot, then upgrading
    - disconnect all unnecessary peripherals
    - only have your system drive connected

You have not completed your PC specs so we know nothing about your PC. Please do so- see 'My computers' under my post for comparison. There's a tutorial to help you if needed. Tools: Speccy, Hwinfo (free) can help you.

Please post a screenshot of your partitions using a 3rd party partition manager- not Disk Management.

Please run a disk check: e.g. HDTune (free): Health and Error scan tabs and post the result.
To post a screenshot use the icon above your post- 'Insert Image'.

    See:
FIX: Stuck at making sure you're ready to install Windows 10?
    and follow the preparatory instructions.

You should find some upgrade logs have been generated. See the reference to those following the Resolve... link above and upload them.

Please note that some threads attempting to help people with upgrade problems have run for days without success. Sometimes it's easy.

    Success

Thank you for your reply, Left it run overnight and it started to install, Now it's up and running. So all i needed was patience, something that comes hard to me.

Thank you again for your reply.

Good news. There are a couple of threads on 'how long does it take to upgrade'. Sometimes hours. But my impression it's unusual to be stuck at that step.
