Four different methods to upgrade laptop from 1809 to 1909 fail.

SFC reports everything is OK. chkdsk reports everything is OK. In all attempts hardware compatibility was verified. The failure always occurs when the upgrade reaches 92% then it hangs for hours. After reboot, it restores v1809. No error number was displayed. Perhaps it was recorded in a log?
The first attempt was when the upgrade was offered in Settings\Updates.
The second attempt was using the MediaCreationTool1909.
The third attempt I tried with Windows10Upgrade9252.
The fourth attempt was using the USB installation media and running Setup.exe from Windows.
The currently installed OS is Windows 10 Home rel.1809 version 17763.914. The hardware is an Acer Aspire 5 with AMD Ryzen 3 3200U CPU and 8GB RAM. Are there any other options?

1) Open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:
2) sfc /scannow
3) dism /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth
4) dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
5) sfc /scannow
6) chkdsk /scan
7) wmic recoveros set autoreboot = false
8) wmic recoveros set DebugInfoType = 7
9) wmic recoveros get autoreboot
10) wmic recoveros get DebugInfoType
11) bcdedit /enum {badmemory}

12) When these have completed > right click on the top bar or title bar of the administrative command prompt box > left click on edit then select all > right click on the top bar again > left click on edit then copy > paste into the thread

13) Make sure that there is no over clocking while troubleshooting

14) Run each V2 and DM log collectors and upload results into this thread

18) List all Microsoft and non-Microsoft drive encryption software.

19) Open disk management > by default some columns are compressed > widen each Status and Volume > make sure the contents within the parenthesis are in full view and that none of the characters are cutoff > view disk 0 > widen this row as needed so that all of the characters are in full view > post an image into the thread

Hi, this happened to me on one PC. Here's what worked for me (no guarantees of course);

I used the appropriate iso file, logged in, mounted it, ran setup.exe (running setup.exe from a bootable disk after logging in is the same thing).

But when I was prompted as to whether I wanted to accept updates or not, I declined. (Note- you can disconnect/disable the internet). This time the upgrade completed - total about an hour.

Subseqently I dealt with the updates.

I suggest that's worth trying before going through days of exchanges and uploading the various logs.

You should also remove any 3rd party security software- disabling some e.g. comodo- is not enough, and making sure you have a current disk image before any significant change is always strongly recommended just in case. Macrium Reflect (free-paid) e.g. + large enough external storage for image files.

Thanks for the help from all the thread contributors.This turned out to be a completely new experience. The installation's error message was triggered by a software which interfered with the upgrade, but which software is not yet known.

Checkdisk, SFC and DISM were all fine, After that I switched to dalchina's recommendations because it was the most logical.

Upgrading from the USB key (created by Windows Media tool) failed with and without internet connection. The same thing happened with I attempted a clean install from the same USB, with and without an internet connection as well.

So, I deleted and reformatted the C: drive partition but not the two hidden system folders.Reconnected the Ethernet cable, left the power on, and walked away from the laptop. Microsoft recognized the hardware and performed the install of a fresh copy of 1909 from the web. I spent the last 6 hours reinstalling my apps.

There are still some minor glitches relating to the uninstalled OneDrive. It seems that in build 1909 the Desktop became part of OneDrive.
