Media Creation Tool - How often do you need a new one?

    On November 24, 2019 I created a USB stick using MediaCreationTool1909.exe.
File Properties Details show the version to be 10.0.18362.418.

I am now getting ready to upgrade a Windows 7 laptop to Windows 10 and wondering if I need to create a new USB stick from the Media Creation Tool.

Will the new tool contain the most recent 1909 updates and the current one I have will not?

Or does the 1909 tool install the most recent updates for 1909 automatically (no need to create a new stick)?

    TIA

When running a windows 10 iso as an in place upgrade repair you should have the option to make an upgrade without updates or an upgrade with updates.

So once you make an iso to the version you should be set until the next version is released.

You need a new MCT whenever Microsoft releases a new major build, so twice a year. Other times, you can keep using it every time you want to do an install.

I get a new one every time I want to download a Windows 10 ISO, just in case something has changed. I don't see any reason not to. There are other ways to get back level ISO if I want them.

Thank you for your opinions. It helps.

I assume that the MCT download basically installs the 'base model' OS version, and then you must install all the current updates after installation?

    Example:
    Media Creation Tool updated
The Media Creation Tool 1903 version has been updated to build 18362.418 on Microsoft website
and often there would be just one CU to follow as far as the O/S is concerned.
