How to reformat Win7 laptop and install Win10?

Please help with reformatting an old, but still capable Win7 laptop and install Win10 after that. I will buy Win10 for this purpose.

You don't need to buy Windows 10, it's still free to upgrade. So first upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 to ensure that it gets a digital license stored on Microsoft's activation servers. An upgrade will retain all installed apps that are compatible with Windows 10 (most are, setup will tell you if any of yours aren't before beginning the upgrade).

After that if you still want to you can do a clean install. You can skip entering a key when asked. It will activate automatically from the existing digital licence.
