Maybe I'm reading your post wrong but if you're saying that 23.29gig of unallocated space is "set by Samsung Magician" then my copy is broken cause I've no such unallocated space showing on any of my five Samsung drives under Disk Management....
    Attachment 258606
Samsung Magician shows the same space...
    Attachment 258610

Anyway, my understanding is that all disk manufactures already have space set aside for disk performance and garbage collection thus there's really no need for a user to set their own unless they desire to do so. Example: looking at a 512gig SSD drive reveals the user's usable space is 476gig, thus 36gig is already set aside. A larger drive even sets more space aside.

In short, there is already space set aside, and if you want to increase or decrease it, you could do so with the over provisioning feature (for Samsung)....

Ticking the custom box allows you to either decrease the or increase the drive's usable space. The default usable space on a 512gig drive is 476gig of usable space. I don't leave any unallocated space on my drives, but do keep my drives under 60% filled.

Not questioning the use of unallocated space, just making sure people understand what's what.
Initially, couple of years ago when I bought 960 evo I just cloned older SATA SSD with windows to it. When I run Magician it suggested to have that empty partition and I did it. Now when I did clean 1909 installed, it was without it so I let SM make it again, lots of free space so why not. Very soon I'm getting a 1TB NVMe so ill see if I'm going to make that empty partition again, maybe not.

I've got eight Samsung SSD drives and have been using Samsung Magician for years and it never "suggested an empty partition". Nor did it automatically create any during any clean OS installs. That's where I'm confused. I just format the drive and partition as I see fit.

Anyway I was just curious as to where you were coming from.

I assume that magic partition is the "PortableBaseLayer" (8gb) ?

The PortableBaseLayer seems to be associated with the new Sandbox feature.

This is all very confusing. I don't have any of the partitions or unallocated space ya'll are talking about nor do I see a need for them. I'm happy the way the drive is allocated and it runs perfectly and very fast. I'll leave it asis.

It's not required. And it would only be there if you created it. Some use unallocated space as a way to "enhance" a drive's performance by insuring the entire drive isn't saturated with data (keeping things simple). I don't but as I said, I also don't fill my drives past 60 percent capacity. That's me.

I buy a drive and I use it until it dies or I buy another for some reason, like i did this one. I had a 500GB that had more than 50% free but I couldn't pass up the price on the 1TB so I bought it, installed it and I'm very happy with it. I'll format the 500GB then give it to a friend tomorrow so he can enjoy a good SSD in his computer.
