Windows 10 Update not working from 1709 to 1903 Macbook Pro

    Hi,

I recently bought a Lacie external hard drive (Lacie Rugged THB USB-C SCSI Disk Device 5TB - partitioned 2.5TB NTFS, two small EFI partitions with one exFAT and the rest partitioned to MacOS) to install windows running from my 2018 Macbook Pro. I tried to install the newest ISO version of Windows 10 on the drive but couldn't. I was only successfully able to install Windows 10 Home Version 1709 OS build 16299.1127. I thought that this would be ok because then I could just update from there.

I have been trying to update now for a few weeks and maybe had 9 attempts that have each taken at least 10 hours to get to roughly 30% then I get blue screen of death with error: driver_pnp_watchdog

I firstly tried using Windows Update which runs "2019-04 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based Systems (KB4493440)" which now only initialises and then says "An update is being prepared for your device, but it's not quite ready yet. We'll keep trying or you can try again now."

After doing MANY hours of online research and realised Windows Update sucks, I tried using Windows 10 Update Assistant, running in safe mode, cleaning everything up, running scans using command prompt, defragging disks etc etc etc etc etc.... None of those steps have worked.

My hunch is that the Lacie drivers may be somewhat interfering with the install processes as this is the only thing attached to the MacbookPro when the install is happening but obviously needs to be because that is the drive that Windows is updating... So I tried to update drivers, went to Lacie website etc and found that the driver version I had (10.0.16299.371) is the latest (which seems odd considering the driver date is 21/06/2006).

I would really appreciate some help here because it is killing me and wasting so much time... As a person who has neither Mac nor Windows allegiance, the macOS updates are 10000% easier and reliable which is frustrating because I'd really love to like Windows!!!! Seems like a huge development flaw by Microsoft.

Bootcamp or Parallels, along with what version of MacOS is installed on your Macbook. There have been changes made to how Bootcamp works now with the changes to 1903/1909 for Windows. Parallels is a different story. It has not kept up with the changes to how much Windows has changed with 1903/1909.

You really are best to just do a clean Install of Windows 10 on your Macbook on the installed drive and not use an external drive.
