Novice question on MBR/Legacy installation System Partition

Novice question on MBR/Legacy installation System Partition

    Greetings.

Recently did a fresh installation on an ancient MBR/Legacy machine using the latest 1909 ISO. The process created a 579 MB System Partition consisting of two folders, Boot and Recovery, among other items. See attached pic.

    1. What's the purpose of the Recovery folder? How to access it?
    2. Can it be omitted?
    3. How to create the Recovery folder manually? Using MS tools such as bcdboot/bcdedit? Bootice? Others?

    Many thanks and best regards,

Thanks for the kind reply, hsehesstedt.

    1. Did a few more test runs, and something unusual emerged. It turned out the 418 ISO from MCT did not always place the Recovery folder in the System Reserve partition. Used the 418 to create W10/W7 dual boot configuration on two existing W7x86 installations, which had their System partition expanded from 100MB to 590MB. However, the Recovery folder was placed in the C: drive (W10 OS drive) in one of them. Can anyone kindly advise what may have caused such behavior?

    2. On the other hand, the 476 ISO taken from UUPDump was able to place the Recovery folder in the System Reserve partition in both cases. What are the instructions used to created the Recovery folder?

    3. What's the relative merit of having the Recovery folder in the System Reserve partition vs C: drive?

    4. Can anyone kindly explain where the contents of the Recovery folder is take from?

    Many thanks and best regards,

The recovery folder is the location of the (Windows Recovery Environment) or WinRE = WinRE.wim...
your Legacy system only allows for 4 partitions... thus WinRE was placed in - C:\Recovery
If you where to disable Recovery - it would be placed back into it's default location - Windows/System32/Recovery
MS tries to keep the WinRE separate from the OS - so the OS can be repaired without interfering with the Booted Recovery Environment
