    A few clean install questions

After having way too many problems with upgrading from 1803 to 1903 and trying a reset as well I've decided to do a clean install of W10.
I have a Macrium Reflect backup if this to proves to be a problem and all my other back ups just in case.

I'm all set to go with the MS software and have looked at the clean install guide on here which is very helpful!

My question is when the install is complete will it be V 1903 by default?

Also are there any useful tips any of you can give me or point to in the guides which will help make this process a good one

    Hello Ashley,

If you create a USB using MCT, then it will be for 1903 build 18362.356. Afterwards, Windows Update will get you to the last build 18362.449.

Create Bootable USB Flash Drive to Install Windows 10

The clean install tutorial below pretty much gives you all the details step by step for what to expect and options. If you are installing Windows 10 Home and wanted to use a local account instead of Microsoft account, then you can enter a bogus phone number outlined at step 24 below to do so.

    Hi Brink,

I'll be doing it from a DVD made from the MCT but I guess its the same process. I have my key from using ShowkeyPlus.

I'm happy to use my MS account in the install. Thanks for the help

If you wanted to install Windows 10 with UEFI, then I would recommend to use a bootable USB flash drive instead. It will be a lot harder trying to boot from a DVD for UEFI.

Plus, the installation will go much faster using a USB vs DVD.

I'll have to check my BIOS to see if it can do UEFI.

Use USB and you don't need a key.

I've tried two ways to boot from the USB but when I get to the advanced screen I don't get the use a device button on the blue screen.

I tried doing it via hold shift and restart and also from the setting advanced setup restart button

UPDATE...OK I see the problem it's because I'm using a BIOS and not UEFI. Is that correct?

How do I get around it? I know I could set the USB as first boot device in my BIOS but I did read on here not to do that.

UPDATE 2.. I've found if I hit Esc at boot I can pick the boot device. I guess this is the way to go?

Yes, ESC key and picking boot device is what you want to do.

BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP

The first thing you need to do is once you have everything setup is back it up. The best way to do this is to use Macrium Reflect Free to make an image backup to an external hard drive. If you don't have an external hard drive now is a good time to get one as regular backup should be a part of your normal process. You can get a 1TB external hard drive for $60 (less if on sale).
