Attempting to update to Win 10 v1903 - Keep receiving error 0x80004005

    Good day,

This is James. I have a HP desktop running Windows 10 version 1803 Build 17134.98

I have been trying to update it using the Windows update tool and even via Windows update within Windows to version 1903.

However, I keep getting the error 0x80004005

I am not too familiar with editing the registry etc. do you know how I can fix this?

    Thank you
    James

Error Code 0x80004005: What It Is and How to Fix It

An alternative could be to download the 1903 .ISO, and do an upgrade installation from that.

Thank you I will try out the the troubleshooter options as I believe I downloaded the update and tried to install it but still faced the error

I'm a little surprised. Updating from the .ISO runs as an upgrade, and I wouldn't expect Windows Update errors to occur there. I have sometimes resorted to a repair install (aka upgrade-in-place, installing the same version of Windows over itself to fix errors), and I've never had that fail. But then, my experience is limited.

Perhaps some of the people here who seem to do a dozen Windows installations a month will offer better help.

Maybe I am wrong, is installing from a .iso different than downloading the .exe or similar file from the Windows update tool?

Can someone please point me to where I can find a .iso file for the update? and I can try that first

    Thank you

    Download Windows 10

Click on the Download tool now button then choose to Create an ISO.
