Laptop w/32 GB Drive - Not Room to Update

I think not, since there would be ~7GB free after that DL. Unless there has been a very recent advancement in space management, I don't think it would work.

I'm not going to be updating imminently, and when I do I'll do a clean install, but what's up with the Update Assistant inviting trouble?

Quite likely it saw the Data drive available space, and made the choice to put it's temp files there. I believe it's when it's short on space, after the Compatibility phase up front, and nothing is found to use, it will prompt you for a USB or another device to use for temp files.

I've had it use one of my data drives as a work space even when there's plenty of C: space. Spread the load around, runs more efficiently.

I finally got my student's laptop updated to 1903! Whew!

I bought an Adata Ultimate SU650 M.2 2280 SATA 240 GB 6 GB/s SSD. I only paid $33.xx for it.

I copied and executed my UUPDump created 18362 files to the new drive and it finally installed with no questions.

Next hurdle is to get the eMMC cloned to the Adata, then make it C:\. I know it can be done, but one bite of this elephant at a time ...

So, maybe this thread isn't finished yet. At least one of you can point me in the right direction to get this thing finished.

Excellent news that you've sorted it Wynona :)

My granddaughter had one of those low spec netbooks and I thought that eventually I'd get my hands on it to play about once it wouldn't update. Unfortunately that never happened as her parents threw it away in frustration and bought her a laptop

You can use Macrium to clone the eMMC to the Adata drive.

How are you planning to use the new drive after this is completed ?

Looking on the Lenovo forum it doesn't seem possible to replace the drive unless you replace the MB
with one with a 64GB drive soldered on it.
