Windows reset. no working mouse or keyboard

I have tried to do a W10 reset with keeping my files. When I get to pick your region screen neither the USB mouse or keyboard will work, so I cannot proceed! I tried it again with a ps/2 keyboard and mouse but I get the same problem.
Legacy USB support is enabled in the BIOS
I can find that people have had this problem after the reset but not during the process.

Did you try F8 during POST?

Its probably got nothing to do with your problem but I have just had no mouse/no touchpad when trying to do a clean W10 install using Media Creation Tool.
Someone suggested I update my BIOS to the latest version - which I did.
I immediately got both mouse and touchpad back !

Remove the keyboard and plug the mouse in, just the mouse, in a USB 2 port, not a USB 3 port. Make sure nothing else except the display is connected, nothing.

Reset the CMOS by pulling the CMOS battery (CR2032), unplugging the power cord then press and hold the power button for 20 seconds or so.
Put the battery back in, plug in the power cord and power up (with just the mouse connected) and see what happens.

OK I will give that a go. I've never reset a CMOS before. Does it not loose all of the necessary setting?

There is a reset in the BIOS, could I not use that?

BIOS = CMOS = NVRAM. Different terms that all mean basically the same thing. It's the programming that controls the hardware.

You can try BIOS reset but I prefer pulling the battery and doing it the way I described. Once you put the batter back and power up you should get a message to Press F1 to continue, F2 to enter Setup. Press F2. In setup, set the date and time, press the key to load defaults then press F10 to save and exit.

That's all you need to do.

Thanks. I'll have a go next weekend and hope it fixes the problem.
