I thought 1909 would have been published by now (September came and went). As late as a few days ago, I got an offer to upgrade to 1903. It bombed, as it has before. My question is, if you know, has MS indicated that they have fixed the problems, with the publishing of 1909, that have prevented the install of 1903 for so many of us?

Some of the recent updates have included features to deal with incompatibilities. The presumed idea is that would make a current upgrade attempt which included those updates more likely to succeed.
Upgrades can fail for many reasons, from 3rd party security to having particular hardware or drivers, to issues with disks and partitions.It bombed, as it has before.
The error message and your upgrade logs may hold clues, although interpretation can be next to impossible sometimes.
Further, many users are running Win 10 on machines never designed for it, and for which the manufacturers don't provide drivers. Effectively out of specification with no guarantees.
That you have received a prompt to upgrade indicates your machine is potentially capable of being upgraded.
Sometimes downloading the iso and upgrading manually, having uninstalled conflicting programs, helps.
The code YYMM refers to the month that the base build development was fixed, further fixes being by means of cumulative updates. From 1607 onwards the date of availability has always been the following month (apart, that is, from the withdrawn then re-released 1809 and the subsequent cautious release of 1903). Past releases would suggest 1909 is intended for release in October, though it could be November if MS are still being extra cautious

Just last week -- September 26, to be precise -- MS accounced that 1903 was ready for prime-time, commercial deployment on the Known Issues web page. Here's that quotation: "We recommend commercial customers running earlier versions of Windows 10 begin broad deployments of Windows 10, version 1903 in their organizations." This does not mean that 1909 is ready to appear; rather, it means that MS has addressed all of the issues it perceives might stop wholesale deployments of 1903. You should thus also be able to download, install and use 1903 on your PC, even if Windows Update still doesn't offer it to you.

Thanks for replies. I was remiss in not mentioning that I am running 1803, and (as I mentioned) that the attempted installment of 1903 failed a few days ago (1903 was prompted by Windows Update). I will try to find the log file and see (ha!) what might have happened.

I have been running 1909 for several weeks now, as part of the 10% of the Release Preview selected to pre assess the release, so should be General release by end of October
I was working on someones computer Monday when 1909 popped up on it. I did not think it had been released yet. I know he is not on the Insider program so I have no idea why he got it. I told him to sit on it for a while until the smoke clears.

People on these Forums know the UUPDUMP link and what to do so I don't need to add more info here. Just google or check through some of the Insider build threads. No need to register as insider to use uupdump builds.
