I’m trying to install XP under Hyper-V & although it installs fine I find that the network disconnects immediately & states little or not network, also there’s no sound as it says there’s no audio card installed.
I suspect XP is too old for Hyper-V.
I require an older version to play some games which are no longer compatible with Windows 10 - even after running compatibility mode.

Is the host computer 64-bit/x64 or 32-bit/x86? Only the Pro version of WinXP was also available as x64 so it may be a driver issue for the hardware that Hyper-V is on.
The motherboard and its built-in adapters may not have drivers for WinXP. You may have do as I, hang on to any WinXP computer you come across to use. Does the game/s need Internet service? I came across a Dell Optiplex and it still can connect. If one of the free antivirus programs can still support WinXP I'd be sure to get it. If the 'net is not needed just install the games, could also see if they have an offline version using your Win10 to do it.
The only network adapter that an XP VM can use is the Legacy Network Adapter. See Part Five in this tutorial.

@Berton: Game only needs internet to activate but I require audio more.
I suspect I’m going to have to give up or see if I can find a genuine Win 8 pro key as I have a disk - the original key was used to
upgrade Windows 10 home to pro.
There's no sound in a standard Hyper-V VM up to and including a Win10 guest, not unless you use an Enhanced session. Unfortunately an Enhanced session is not available for Generation 1 VMs which AFAIK is the only one you can use for an XP machine. See @Kari's tutorial....
