Thanks mate for clarifying that for me. Like I said I've never tried an in-place repair or upgrade but its something I might consider at some point in the future
You're welcome. Up until 1903 an in-place upgrade has been my standard method to apply a Feature Update. Most here agree that it tends to be the most reliable, often succeeding where windows update has failed. It also has the advantage that you can update as many machines as you want with just the one download.

The release of 1903 coincided with me switching to an unlimited broadband package, so for 1903 I've tested allowing windows update to perform the Feature Update. While it has been reliable, it also seems to take more than twice as long as an in-place upgrade.

...what would take less than two hours with an ISO (I know, because I have previously used the 1903 ISO on this machine) took over four and a half hours via Window Update.
How long does the 1903 upgrade take using Windows Update?

I used the WCT on Sunday and it installed 18362.XXX. I had to use WU to get it to 18362.356.

That makes perfect sense for you to use in-place upgrade if you have several PC's to update.
I'm the same as you, I have an unlimited broadband package too so I've always used the Windows Update method and Ive found it to be reliable without any problems..so far After your explanation of how it works. It is definitely something to consider in the future. Thanks again for your advice and help
