The various 'flavors' of Linux also carry a name such as Linux Mint, Ubuntu, Lubuntu, Kubuntu, PCLinuxOS, etc., to distinguish from others. There's a large number of versions from different sources so the numbers attached tend to become meaningless without the name.

The problem is that version is already EOL, with no more security updates.

It is very easy to download and burn to USB the latest version:

    1. download Download Ubuntu Desktop | Download | Ubuntu

    2. install Rufus and burn to USB Rufus

    3. install from the USB Install Ubuntu desktop | Ubuntu tutorials

Of course this assumes you are not planning on dual-booting or creating a special partitioning scheme but want to install to the whole disk.

Would be happy to recommend other guides if you need.

The great thing about Linux is that you can distro hop to find the one that suits you best....KDE Plasma 5 Neon is my choice as it give full customisation....The only issue I have with Linux is the WIFI will occationally drop out and needs to be reset.

The only specific case I know of is for PCs built with the Intel Atom Z2760, Z2580, Z2560, Z2520 processors (Clover Trail). Those cannot be upgraded beyond 1607, but on the plus side MS will provide them (and only those PCs) with extended support for 1607 until 2023.

Microsoft agrees to extend support deadline for Clover Trail PCs | ZDNet
note this down Bree: Intel Clover Trail / Cloverview based PCs can only run a 32bit/x86 Win10 1607 version because these specific CPUs are 32bit only and cannot run a 64bit Win10 edition.
