Failed to Install 1903

I originally upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 when Microsoft offered the free upgrades and have never had any Windows Update issues until now... running 64 bit.
Timeline:
1. Using Windows Update I tried updating to 1903 a couple of days ago and it failed to install showing 0xc19001e1. Avast & Malwarebytes were disabled. I did forget to unplug my USB printer and scanner.

2. I ran CHKDSK and it found and fixed errors.

3. I ran Windows Update again and it also failed showing 0xc1900101 .

4. Ran DISM tool and showed no corruption.

5. Ran Windows Troubleshooter.

6. I since have downloaded the Media Creation Tool but haven't tried it yet. Once I click on it to start the installation am I reinstalling Windows or updating to 1903... I've never used this tool before?

How did you try to update, by WU or by executing Setup.exe on the USB flash disk created with Media Creation Tool?

If you don't have the Win 10 installation iso or a USB Win 10 installation disk, use the Media Creation Tool to download the iso file to your computer, then mount the iso and run Setup.exe.

Ok what I did was use the MS media creation tool like you guys suggested and used it to download an iso file. I ran the iso exe so it’s in the process of updating so we shall see if it successfully installs.

Ok I let it update during the night and got up just to see if everything went ok and guess not... got this error screen.

Thanks but is this starting to get over my head some when you start mentioning log files. I am able to follow the steps to perform a clean boot into Windows so I will try that later today.

I tried for the 3rd time to update and this time no error screen once my desktop loaded but going to All Settings>Update & Security>View Update History shows it failed again with 0x80240034 error. I did a Clean Boot and I was able to disable everything in Task Manager>Startup but Avast it would not allow me... otherwise all other items were. I had already disabled all the Avast Shield in the program itself.

Guess I still don't understand locating the log files I'm not seeing the same things in 'Rollback' when I follow the file path?

• The minidump file: $Windows.~bt\Sources\Rollback\setupmem.dmp,
• Event logs: $Windows.~bt\Sources\Rollback*.evtx
• The device install log: $Windows.~bt\Sources\Rollback\setupapi\setupapi.dev.log

Is there anything else for me to try?

1) Open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:
2) sfc /scannow
3) dism /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth
4) dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
5) sfc /scannow
6) chkdsk /scan
7) wmic recoveros set autoreboot = false
8) wmic recoveros set DebugInfoType = 7
9) bcdedit /enum {badmemory}

10) When these have completed > right click on the top bar or title bar of the administrative command prompt box > left click on edit then select all > right click on the top bar again > left click on edit then copy > paste into the thread

10) Make sure that there is no over clocking while troubleshooting.

11) There are log collectors used in another forum room.

12) Open disk management > by default some columns are compressed > widen each Status and Volume > make sure the contents within the parenthesis are in full view and that none of the characters are cutoff > view disk 0 > widen this row as needed so that all of the characters are in full view > post an image into the thread

13) Find a flash drive that you can format (> or = 8 GB)

14) Create a bootable Windows 10 iso:

15) List and uninstall all non-Microsoft antivirus software
(This includes always on and manual software.)
(This includes running the applicable antivirus uninstall tools for any AV that could have been incompletely uninstalled)

16) List and uninstall all non-Microsoft firewall software

17) List all Microsoft and non-Microsoft drive encryption software.
Uninstall all non-Microsoft disk encryption software

18) If this file is available > post a share link into the thread using one drive, drop box, or google drive
