Hi Bree, I don't know what that last line means "..assign drive letter back to dynamic from static."

That last line above is in blue, it's a link to a post on Ten Forums. The text is just the title of the thread that post was in.

Ok, this is bringing back the memories now. I did work with the diskpart, and what stopped me was I could not get an ISO file downloaded to my PC. Here is the link and instruction on doing that. Download Windows 10 ISO File

What was the problem you encountered? If you follow that tutorial you should have no problems downloading an ISO. If you use Option One on a PC (using the MCT to make an ISO) then it is easy to create a USB from that ISO if you need one. Option Four in this tutorial uses Diskpart to prepare the USB with a suitable format.

I know I haven't posted every detail of my "journey" but I have followed the steps. And 3 times just trying to get the MCT. As far as I can see, you cannot finish the ISO thing without having a DVD. I do not have one, and not willing to go buy one until I'm sure there isn't a way to use my flash drive or SD card. I posted a link to a post here on this forum where someone got the job done, but I don't see it right now. I'll go get it.

Ok, post 13, 15, and 16 I think I'll try after a take a long break. Here's the link to those posts.. Media Creation Tool v1903 Error 0x80042405-0xA001B

Have you downloaded the MCT successfully? If so, when you run it you choose to 'make install media for another PC'. Then it offers the choice of making an ISO or a USB.

Choose ISO and it asks where to save the .iso file. At the end it offers to burn this ISO to a DVD, but you don't need to do that. You can make a USB by mounting this ISO then copying all the files from it to a USB, prepared using Diskpart as described in Option For of this tutorial:

You have been posting here for the past four hours since you joined Ten Forums. I know it's a good forum, but even so that's a long time to be stuck in front of a screen.

Take a break and let it sink in for a while, it should all make more sense when you return refreshed.

Ok, I see I don't need the DVD. I know how to use Diskpart so I will do that when I'm rested, let's see, yes, in about a week

No, I'll be back, but it will probably be tomorrow a.m. I've actually been on this trip since 7:30 but did take a couple breaks. Not enough though. Thank you for all your help :)

I hope I can use my sd card because this Flash drive is shot, pretty sure. Can't format it again now.

Not tried with an SD card, apparently it depends on the machine you want to boot from it having support for booting from SD. More in this thread...

Using an SD card to install?

If you can't get the flash drive usable again with Diskpart's CLEAN command then it's probably toast. Get another, they're cheap enough. You don't need a large one, 4GB would be enough, 8GB more than enough.

Ok Bree, maybe that Clean command will work. No big deal, had that drive for awhile now anyway. I went and did some housework. Never remembered feeling that refreshed by doing housework, lol ttyl PS still taking a break from my little project (which has turned into a monster as my lil projects often do). Wanted to thank you though for this last reply of yours :)

Wow, I never saw this any of the 3 times I tried doing this. Your quote Bree "Choose ISO and it asks where to save the .iso file.". At last, I am able to save the iso file to my PC. I will just let that download for tonight. My download speeds are slow but at least that will be ready in the a.m.

Thank you again, something finally went right.

    Update 8:24 pm PST:

I successfully, thanks to all of you, especially Bree, have my bootable Flashdrive ready to do it's thing on the Chromebook 3. I'll start that tomorrow morning.

Even if it doesn't work, or work well, I've learned a lot about doing this particular type of install to another device which is great:)

I will let you all know how it goes tomorrow a.m.

PS That "Mounting thing" I'd never heard of, but by following the directions given to me, it was sort a copy from my download file of the Windows 10 ISO, and pasting into the drive that held my thumb drive.

More tomorrow. Night all or maybe morning to some I'm replacing (trying) Chrome OS on Chromebook w/Windows 10-bunny-moon.jpg

Went to bed last night and read all about uploading the Win 10 to my Chromebook. I'd already read about it, but I like reading again, at least once before my attempt. At Howtogeek site, and the steps are many as you may already know.

Maybe I missed it in this thread, but I don't think anyone that replied has done the swap?? I can't find anything by googling either, where someone talks about the aftermath and how the Win 10 is working for there Chromebook.

Anyway, I'll ponder it a little longer this a.m. and see if I want to give it a go today Thanks again everyone

I decided not to do this. After reading more info on it, I realize it will not be what I look for in a Tablet made for Windows 10. I prefer my PC for the most part anyway, and just felt the Chromebook might make me happier with Windows 10 on it, but it's not worth the trouble. I think I'll just sell it if I literally stop using it.

I think I mentioned somewhere already that I only bought it so I could help my sister who's 150 miles up the coast from me. She's ok with hers because she's not familiar enough with Windows to know the difference. I'm still glad and grateful for all the help I received on this thread, and did learn a lot which I love learning new things tekkie

thank you all again and right now I'm exploring the forum for other things I might dive into
