Problem doing a clean install of Windows 10 on Windows Surface Pro 4

I am trying to fix the MBR on Windows Surface Pro 4 so as to install a fresh copy of windows 10 . Any Ideas how to go about this ?
Just so you know I am running into issues as if It seems like hard drive is locked and every time I try and do a clean install of Windows 10 on Windows Surface Pro 4 it fails.
If I boot into recovery USB, go to CMD and try

    • Bootrec /rebuildbcd
    • Bootrec /fixmbr
    • Bootrec /fixboot

I get fixboot access denied error.
    Thank you for all help.

One of your options during Windows installation is to format the disk.
The issues you describe would then not be relevant.

Windows should be installed to unallocated space.

This tutorial link has text and images:

    Clean Install Windows 10

The access denied message can be seen when there is boot failure troubleshooting.
For example running the command line command bootrec /fixboot.
This command is not run when performing a clean install as all partitions are deleted making an unallocated drive.

Find a camera or smartphone camera to take pictures and post images of any problems following the tutorial.

You would need to provide details of the failure- error message, log files...

    Is it in warranty?

Otherwise try some diagnostics. I don't know what ports a Surface device has - presumably it can boot from a USB disk. If so, create this and run HD Tune Health and Error scan tabs

Note this for Surface 2 (yours is 4) - is there anything similar?

If you did a true clean install then you should not be doing any formatting.
    1. Disconnect all but the drive you want to install to.
    2. Delete all partitions
    3. Click OK with out creating any partitions or doing any formatting. Let the install setup and format the partitions it needs.

Reconnect other drives (if any) when install completes.

    Hi Ztrucker,

Have already tried what you suggest with same results that Windows 10 does not install.

    Any other suggestions?
