    Renovating-Updating Desktop Inquiry

This is the second time a tower desktop will receive a 'redo' In 2017 the main items were replaced. It became 15-7600 Kaby Lake quad core 3.8hjz, Asus Z270-K 6gn usb 3 atx MB, DDR4 16gb, cooler master evo cooler.
Windows 10 was activated. It originated from a Win7 Pro. There was no issue with the replacing of parts.

Now I'm noticing a slow down in performance with the Adobe photo products when developing Canon digital raw images. I also create video mp4 files with these images. This site content has been my guideline for putting a machine together.
So my plan is to update to 19-9900 8 core and Z390 AsRock Phantom Gaming 9 with m.2 PCleNVME Samsung 970 pro ssd as described at this web site.

Is it possible to discover ahead of time if this change of hardware would fit into the Microsoft plan or is this discovered at the last minute of the renovation? There was no communication on the 2017 reno. I thought it might be because the origin was a Pro version.
At the moment the operating system is on a Samsung 250 SSD. The storage drives are Western Digital 7200s Video is nvidia GTX 1060. The main software is Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, ON1 2019 and Proshow video creator.

Another question is the actual Windows install. I have read that it is preferable to do a clean install versus copying the existing system and applications to a new hard drive etc. This wasn't done the last time and all went well.

"Is it possible to discover ahead of time if this change of hardware would fit into the Microsoft plan"..............

What exactly do you mean by "the Microsoft plan"??

If you are feeling a bit nervy, you might NOT do a clean install and see if you are satisfied, with the understanding that you could always later do a clean install if push came to shove.

I'd expect the i9-9900 to run hotter, so keep an eye on your temps. Your existing cooler may be adequate. I have no personal experience with it or a 9900.

I refer to the hardware that is allowed or not allowed. If I'm not allowed to reuse the windows 10 then I have to make sure to tell the shop. I was expecting to have to do an operating system purchase in 2017.

NavyLCDR: I'm replacing parts in an existing computer. Of course, the 'parts' are basically 'the' computer. The boot drive is changing but the storage drives will remain. This same replacing of parts action took place in 2017. The boot drive did not change. The activation went through without the technician required to do anything.
I'll remind the technician when the parts have come in about getting the computer ready to have license moved or whatever.

BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP

The first thing you need to do is backup your current install. The best way to do this is to use Macrium Reflect Free to make an image backup to an external hard drive. If you don't have an external hard drive now is a good time to get one as regular backup should be a part of your normal process. You can get a 1TB external hard drive for $60 (less if on sale).

Then give it to the shop for the rebuild. That way no matter what happens you have a good backup and can always get back to where you are (excluding new hardware of course).

Ztruker: YES I do this backup routine. I purchased Macrium Reflect way back. There is an external devoted to system backups and it is used regularly.
