Memory, Single or Dual Rank
Just looking for memory to upgrade my laptop, seen on Amazon that there's a kit, 2 x 16Gb and it's dual rank
Not heard of this?
Will it work just as well?

Use CPU-Z to found out if laptop is single or dual-channel mode.
Dual rank and dual channel are not the same.

To get a meaningful answer, the OP should post the make & model of the laptop. (One does tire of asking for that.)
Hi,
Doubt it would be compatible but only you know your computers model/...
I don't know of many laptops that can handle 16gb sticks of memory 8 is usually the max and even that is not automatic.
Crucial System Scanner | Crucial.com
Dual rank 16gb sticks is normal seeing memory sticks are only so long they can't fit all memory chips on one side
So they are on both sides = dual rank.
sorry, my laptop is an MSI GV72 8RD
Crucial says
memory
Slots: 2 (2 banks of 1)
Maximum Memory: 32GB
*Not to exceed manufacturer supported memory.
Standard Memory: 16GB removable
Dual side is not dual rank. May coincide (it was used so in the past..), but not really.
Since seldom click on links to read (look at the post from bobkn)
this is what Wiki have to say..
more interestingPredating the term “rank”, sometimes also called “row” is the use of single-sided and double-sided modules, especially with SIMMs. While most often the number of sides used to carry RAM chips corresponded to the number of ranks, sometimes they did not. This could lead to confusion and technical issues
but average user won't notice it..Too many ranks in the channel can cause excessive loading and decrease the speed of the channel.
In short, if laptop accept 16 GB sticks (and yours should), itwill probablyshould work.
Get 2666 MHz rams with low latency. This is supported by your laptop. Dual rank doesn't matter. Most stick are.
hi, thanks for your reply, bought a few sticks before but never noticed if it said dual rank, this is why i was asking.
Cheers

Thanks for posting the model.
Speaking of Crucial, Crucial 16GB DDR4-2400 SODIMM CT12605565 | GV72 8RD | Crucial.com
This is a dual-rank 16GB SODIMM that is compatible with your laptop. (I wonder whether all 16GB DDR4 SODIMMs are dual rank at this time?)
That doesn't guarantee that the stick that you purchased will work, but it's good news. If I had to bet, I'd say that you're good.
looking at it, it seems most 16GB sticks are dual rank, 8Gb are showing as single rank
