Trying to update to 1903 with Windows 10 Update Assistant fail

I'd like to update to 1903 on my main desktop PC. I downloaded the Windows 10 Update Assistant and started the process. Eventually I get a message saying "You can't install windows on a USB flash drive using Setup." The thing is, there is no USB flash drive attached to the computer. I have an SSD as my C:\ drive and a second HDD as a D:\ drive.

I have removed every USB device from the computer, I've tried the Update Assistant, and I've used the Media Creation Tool to try and install from a flash drive. I get the same error above every time.

Windows installation thinks my SSD C:\ is a flash drive. Anyone have an idea what's going on?

Yes some SSD's can be seen by 1903 aw a USB device due to the design of the MBoard and SATA controller.

You canuse the actual ISO vs the upgrade tool or just wait until closer to Nov.

Have you tried using MCT to download ISO to c:.

Then right click, mount ISO and run setup.

At this point I think I'll just wait for the in place upgrade. What prompted this is the Windows warning "You're currently running a version of Windows that is nearing the end of support..."
