Hi, have you wondered how to protect yourself from this sort of thing in the future?

Use disk imaging. If you have a recent disk image, then even if your disk fails or is infected irretrievably by some virus or inaccessible because of ransomware, or unbootable, restoring your image file can let you recover quite quickly and without needing technical help. The image files also act as a full backup of the disks/partitions imaged.

E.g. Macrium Reflect (free/licensed) - which many members here use.
Thanks, but up until recently, I had hardly used Win10 at all. I was starting to migrate my stuff over from a Win7 PC.

    - - - Updated - - -

All sorted. The only and last option was to scrub my hard drive clean and start afresh, as I was getting no where fast. Fix one thing, something else breaks. I need a reliable PC/OS for my future work and not something that is partially borked. I am loading up as much software as I can and start making images as I go.

    Thanks for everyones help.

Sounds good- I've had Win 10 on 1 PC consistently since 1511 (2015, Nov), now on 1903.
It's wise to delay upgrades until at least the first major update following an upgrade is released, keeping an eye on reports meanwhile.

MS, after great embarrassment has finally learnt (for now) to be more cautious, so 1909 (next build) is mostly another 'fixing' build rather than new things.
