    no images are available...win 10 install

    Hi Kari,

    I thank you for posting instructions on how to create a customized image of windows 10. I followed exactly how you stated the instructions everything has been great all the way up until the point of trying to install windows 10. I have a Dell e5590 laptop i7, 16gig ram, 500gig hd. As I said earlier I followed EXACTLY how you took us step by step through the instructions in creating a customized windows 10. Everything has worked all the way up until when I try to install windows it comes up stating: "no images are available". I used a few of our different keys, a key you provided and others that Microsoft provided still not working. I have changed that key several times in the autounattend file still doesn't seem to work. Is there any other suggestions you could provide or advice to what could be my problem? I have been stuck on this for a few days I just can't seem to get this problem corrected. I have tried so many suggestions and none of them work. I would appreciate it. If it's not product keys what else could it be? I have used windows 10 v1903 throughout the whole process.

    Is this what you mean?

    no images are available...win 10 install-image.png

    If yes, you have a problem with your autounattend.xml file. Upload it here and I can take a look at it until Kari is available. I have the same problem and found a null field that was causing it.

    I see a couple null fields which @Kari indicates are not handled well by the installer.

    Code:
    <AutoLogon>
    <Password>
    <Value></Value>
    <PlainText>true</PlainText>
    </Password>
    <Enabled>false</Enabled>
    <Username>Xxxxxxxxxxx</Username>
    </AutoLogon>
    WinRE shows 300, believe it should be 450.
    MSR size is 128, Kari sets it to 16.

    This line under <ImageInstall><OSImage> is not used by Kari:
    <InstallToAvailablePartition>false</InstallToAvailablePartition>

    Also, the file appears to have been created by some method other than Kari's tutorial so I don't see how you could have followed it step by step.

    ok. so now since there seems to be some issues with the autounattend file I went ahead and made a new autounattend file that Kari provided in his instructions. I still get the same EXACT results as in the screen shot you provided(no images are available) I still get those results. I am not understanding how just having a few numbers incorrect would impact the images not getting displayed. I feel like the size of the partitions getting created has nothing to do with displaying no images are available. However, with a new autounattend file I am still getting those same results. I feel like I am almost there it's just something somewhere needs to get tweeked per say. I really do appreciate you taking the time out of your day to look at this. For me this is a real head scratcher.

    I thought I had solved this but it turns out I'm having the same problem when trying to create a custom ISO for Win 10 Home, I get the same failure. Pro worked.

    I've started over from scratch, doing Pro first as I had that working with no problems. If that still works then I start over with Home and see if I can get it to work. I should be able to use the same autounattend and unattend files but I won't since the starting point is a different index in the downloaded ISO. Pro is index 6, Home is index 1.

    What did you end up doing to get pro to work?

    I wonder what it was that you did differently that home doesn't seem to be working for you?

    I was hoping that creating the new answer file from Kari's instructions was going to work, but unfortunately it did not. This is the only hurdle that I have to clear once that is done it's all down hill from there. Believe me I have done my researching and it's just tough. I have read some people say wrong key to change it to a generic one still didn't work. I have changed the key several times and I still get the same results. <-- that's how I feel lol.

    I just did a complete rebuild from scratch of Pro and it works perfectly. I'm running it in a VM so I boot the ISO I created, it starts and I do nothing until the install completes. This is for a BIOS/CSM - MBR setup. I don't have any way to test a UEFI/GPT setup right now.

    I'm going to try Home from scratch today and see how that goes.

    I'll upload my autounattend.xml and unattend.xml files for you to look at but since they are not UEFI/GPT I don't think they are going to help you much. (I like the way the xml is formatted using WSIM, easier to read).

    Maybe @Kari will stop by. He knows this stuff like no one else.

    autounattend.xml:
    Code:

    I just figured out why the Home stuff didn't work. I created a new autounattend.xml but thought I could reuse the unattend.xml from my Pro setup. At this point I'm not even sure I created a new catalog.

    Starting from scratch and I think it will work this time.

    Giant leap backward. I can't even get WSIM to create a catalog file now for Home or Pro (that I previously created with no problem).
