    Discounted licenses -- From Here maybe !!!

    Hi folks

    One can't help noticing the sheer volume of hugely discounted versions of Office and Windows around at the moment and most appear to work.

    Trying to unravel the provenance of these things is probably harder than attending a Mossad or CIA internal briefing but I wonder if finally this is possibly the source of these things and that's why Ms hasn't yet done anything to stop them - although in 2020 they will. Reminds me of the over generous benefits of the old Technet system and the misuse of that program too.

    So if you use these cheap editions remember it's highly AYOR.

    Hi folks

    glad its all fixed

    I missed the update -- shows that one should always read the ENTIRE document !!!!.

    I never realized that so many businesses used that method -- mind you Ms will have to tighten up on what happens to these licenses --as I'm sure a load of them are being sold for these "Massively discounted copies".

    People wouldn't need to use those cheapos if MS didnt charge so much for Windows. Having said that I shall be buying two new licenses from the MS store later this year.

    I have not need to buy Windows in years. I have moved away from building computers for myself or clients. (long story) Every computer I own or sell is business class refurbs from authorized refurbishers. Complete with a genuine license.

    If I needed a key I would buy a full retail license at regular price. I do not trust the $10 keys for any software or game. Watched too many threads all over the net with people getting burned and swearing the keys for any software was "legit". Example, The people buying Malwarebytes from G2a or eBay.

    Hi there
    @Porthos

    I think it was a US President (F.D Roosevelt circa 1933) -- and the remark is still as true today as it ever was -- "nothing to Fear but Fear itself".

    If these things don't work and you pay with a credit card - then you will get your money back.

    Personally --I've used numerous "Dubious sites" in my time and have never encountered any Malware or Virus problems -- .. I still use TPB from time to time --not because I want to avoid paying but often TV / Sports / other content is so rediculously geoblocked it's not possible to get it even if you want to pay -- just look at Netflix for example --different content in different countries --IMO should be a GLOBAL offering with the same content available everywhere.

    I see from your logo you still use Malwarebytes -- all these things were brilliant in C20 until W10 came along -- there's really no need for these things any more on Home computers as WD (soon to be called Microsoft Defender) does everything perfectly well these days - is updated almost daily and if one takes any notice of comparatve evaluations of A/V software it does very well indeed.

    If you get these cheap products (Office 2019 / Windows) from Amazon or recognized sellers then the thing is from Ms -- in any case you can always compare the SHA with the Ms official one.

    BTW most of these licenses come from the Ms Licensing insider stuff as I posted this link earlier

    Microsoft giveth and Microsoft taketh away: Partner boss explains yanking of free licences • The Register

    Note that this program is still being continued for a while after Ms threatened to kill it.

    Malwarebytes and these other 3rd party A/V suppliers would do better to switch to corporate market to defend Cloud (ie, AZURE) servers and big infrastructure against all sorts of things including terrorism.
    Just look at chaos that could be caused by a simple Check in fault at a major airline, Stock Exchange outage, Electricity supply grid, hospital system etc etc. That's where the Hackers (and others of a more evil intent) are basing their efforts on now -- who wants to bother with ripping off say an 87 year old grandma of 23 USD !!!!.

    These products on Home machines aren't really fit for purpose any more or even necessary -- It's SCAMMING / IDENTITY FRAUD, FAKE WEB SITES, BAD / FRAUDALENT LINKS AND EMAIL ATTACHMENTS,L etc etc that are the main problem in C21 for HOME users --not Malware / Viruses.

    Cheers

    @jimbo45

    I personally do not want to jump thru chargeback hoops with a credit card. My debit/creditcard is my bank account.

    I partally agree with you. But when I look at my clients Malwarebytes logs I beg to differ in some cases. Malwarebytes is only on about 97% of all my clients.

    If you get these cheap products (Office 2019 / Windows) from Amazon or recognized sellers then the thing is from Ms -- in any case you can always compare the SHA with the Ms official one.
    Or an oversold Office pro plus key that down the road if you have to reinstall, will not be able to activate because it is been used on too many computers. And now it is too late to do your "chargeback"

    I agree since it is a worldwide marketplace not only for software/Netflix etc., The only difference in price/content should be exchange rates for the cost/payment.
