    Upgrade to Windows 10 Professional

    Hi...Hallo...

I have a Laptop with existing Windows 10 Home OEM
I have another windows license :
    • Windows 8.1 Home Retail
    • Windows 8.1 Profesional Upgrade

How should I upgrade my laptop OS to windows 10 profesional without to buy a new license ?
Is it possible if I just use windows 8.1 pro upgrade key to upgrade directly to windows 10 pro on my laptop?

    Thanks

If you own the 8.1 Pro license and have not used it or using it anymore, you just have to follow: Here's how you can still get a free Windows 10 upgrade | ZDNet You will need the ISO on either a DVD or USB and install with the 8.1 Pro key.

    Hello All,
I have been asking a few questions and gathering very helpful information [on another thread[ in preparation for me shifting from W7 to W10.
I will be using the same PC and wish to do a Clean Install of W10 rather than an Upgrade.
Just one question for Bro67 - or others.
My W7 is a legitimate OEM Pro - I have all the disks etc that came with it.
So my question is can I still use my OEM W7 key to activate an ISO clean install of W10.
Am asking because I thought that the so called 'free' upgrade is no longer available - hence I was expecting to have to buy a new Key to activate my ISO install.
    Thanks,

    Hi Bro,
When you wrote "it will still work" were you replying to Saptorinz or me [or both] ?

The OP. I do not believe that you can use a Windows 7 license anymore. Wait until someone that has tried or willing to try in a VM to see if you can still use it. I have only done the upgrade with a 8.1 Pro license in the past year.

It is no longer possible to upgrade from Home to Pro Windows 10 using a Windows 7 or 8/8.1 product key only (nor the generic Windows 10 Pro product key, either). Now you have a couple of issues.

The laptop that came with Windows 10 Home from the factory has a Windows 10 Home product key stored in UEFI Firmware. This will prevent you from installing Windows 10 Pro on it as a clean install. The workaround for that is to create a Windows 10 USB flash drive using the Media Creation Tool:
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10

Then on that flash drive, in the sources folder create an ei.cfg file that contains:
    [Channel]
    Retail

That will force Windows setup to ask you what version you want to install for a clean install. However, your Windows 8.1 Professional Upgrade product key might not activate Windows 10 Pro if you manage to get it installed. If the product key has been blocked from online activation by Microsoft, you won't be able to activate Windows 10 Pro with it. You will have to go back and install Windows 8.1 Pro on that computer. Use phone activation to get a good activation of Windows 8.1 Pro on it. Then upgrade that to Windows 10 Pro.

The good news is that once you do get an activated Windows 10 Pro on that computer, it will have a digital license for Windows 10 Pro stored on Microsoft Activation Servers and you won't have to go through all this again. You will be able to just use the generic Windows 10 Pro product key to upgrade from Home to Pro or activate Pro on that same computer.

    Hi... NavyLCDR
Thank you for your clear information
The best option is doing clean install windows 8.1 on my laptop
Upgrade it into 8.1 Pro using my upgrade key
Hope I still can upgrade from win 8.1 pro to win 10 pro using Media Creation Tool
