considerable trouble with a clean install of Windows Pro

Yes I had all of the other drives disconnected. You can boot with the F8 command and pick out the boot device, but.....I loaded Windows 10 Pro and watched very carefully what was happening. It loaded to the point I had Windows 10 operating on the screen but it would not update past 1809 what ever. It was very unstable even with nothing else installed. Installed the 500 gig Samsung SDD which had been in use for over a year. Same problem. but than I found that it had messed up the Samsung SDD drivers at least that is what it seems happened, it would not load properly. It was not recognizing the drive. Samsung has a specific SDD driver for Windows 10, Samsung Magic, This computer has the space for 12 drives so I purchased another 500 GB Samsung SDD, I have space for 5 more. This had been a valuable lesson If I had a PC laptop many of these problems could have been fixed. There are numerous reviews of this edition on Amazon of people having the same problems. I have a USB copy coming directly from Microsoft.friday.

Thanks for the ISO address I was not able to keep this PC going long enough to load a copy.

I am actively looking at an Asus laptop. Even if I don’t use it much I will be able to keep my Demon Familiar going with it.

Was reviewing the installation guide here. I didn’t do anything wrong. but there were some details I didn’t know. I know one thing getting a PC Laptop after this CF is top priority. It would have been so much better to have loaded an ISO copy. I am a 20+ year fan of ASUS motherboards. Their Zenbook is my first choice.

I am getting error code 0x80073712 and there is a 1803 update that will not load. Running the Trouble Shooter says there are missing or corrupt files and reports it can’t fix them. I had this problem in the past and it was when I made the mistake of signing on to advanced copies of updates. This didn’t stop until I turned off the advanced copy downloads and the regular updates caught up with what was installed. If I try to repair it, it open up a whole can of worms. This one of the things I detest about Windows 10 their update engine sucks.

Finally got a good installation. no freezing and I just got notifications of a needed restart for an update, happy, happy joy joy!. The only problems I am having now is with Microsoft intrusiveness. Bing has invaded firefox, and I have not taken the time to do the heave hoe on it, they are not making it easy, Firefox once did the same thing Yahoo. Than there is “You know Windows bunga-bunga is better sure you want to load this instead. Lord do I miss XP.

Will take s look at those links, thanks. My iPhone does similar things but I have things configured there the way I want them. It will be awhile before I have my Demon Familiar configured the way I want it. Now I need to get control as trusted installer so I can clean windows files out of my old boot drive.

Steve Gibson to whom lWindows 10 is not a favorite has indicated he may write a subroutine to clean the intrusive stuff out of Windows 10 to make it more like Windows 7.


There is a semi-secret enterprise edition of Windows 10 that does not have all of the extraneous stuff. It is only, and very reluctantly, sold businesses. It is either that or they are lost to Linux.

In my case, I run Windows 10 as Windows 10.
When I service a Windows 7 computer, I service it as Windows 7.
