    Strangest install ever

I did a clean install of Windows 10 1809 using the MCT bootable USB in which I created a few months back from the official Microsoft MCT download page. Never modified the MCT bootable USB and have had several clean installs in the past.

But today, during the installation after passing the Cortana voice assistant, the OOBE settings had changed. For example, it asked me if I wanted to enable settings in which I did not see before when doing clean installs in the past using the same bootable USB. No changes to the bootable USB whatsoever.

In addition, I did the install with no internet connection.

    This is very strange.

Did some searching around and came up with this on how the OOBE changed during my install. These were the exact changes I saw from the below article.

I just don’t understand as to why the OOBE layout got modified without any changes to my bootable USB media and performing the installation without internet connection.

Even wiped all the partitions as well during the installation.

You allowed it to get updates during install. If you had told it not to do that, you would have seen what you were used to seeing.

So I did do a clean install, but this time on an old HP laptop using the same USB media. Think I know what the mystery is. I selected region to be US as opposed to my main machine being set to another region.

Not sure if this has anything to do with it or not.

How can the install process get updates without internet connection?

I always perform clean installs without internet connection to prevent apps like Candy Crush from installing without permission from the MS Store.

No updates then. Where did the UI change come from. Very weird indeed.

I’ll do another install on my main laptop and this time selecting US as the region and all was back to normal for the OOBE. So I guess for some odd strange reason it depends on the region selection during installation.
