Jimbo, I want to do that but the problem is the key is for Windows 8 RTM Pro OEM while the tablets are currently at Windows 8.1 Pro.
If I create a Macrium image then restore it to a different tablet I don't think it will activate.

I can test this though by making a backup image of the target tablet before doing the restore so if it doesn't work I can put it back. I'll give that a try today.

    Thanks.

Thanks Bree, that's both comforting and depressing as it may prevent me from using a Macrium image to setup the rest of the tablets. I'll play with it today as I mention in my response to Jimbo. Guess I'll have to do it one by one the hard way. At least I won't run out of work soon

Taking an alternative path, I was able to change the password on Administrator then login locally as Administrator and leave the Domain. After that I could create a new account, delete old accounts and clean up the system so I now have a clean Windows 8.1 Pro.

Looks like it's going to take me 4 or 5 hours per tablet to do this but as I get more proficient at it I may be able to get that down to a couple hours. I have 70 (67 now) to do so it's going to take awhile. Macrium image then restore would be far preferable but I don't know what to do about the key.

When I ran ShowKey Plus from KYHI's rescue ISO on a different tablet, it got a different response than previously:
    Attachment 240906
Would the OEM key be from BIOS/Firmware? I'm going to check a few more and is they are different then I have a shot at clean installing 8.0 Pro then upgrading to 8.1 Pro which I think is a better solution, or with the key I could try the Macrium image approach and use the key from each tablet.

    Fun times.
The OEM key is always from the current firmware...

It's interesting that the installed key is a MAK tho' ?

The tablets are from a local school. All their computers are connected to a Domain and control their equipment just like any corporation I guess. I don't know why they would need the MAK for 8.1 as it was a free upgrade from 8.0.

For the ones that don't have the OEM key I've been able to salvage the tablet by removing it from the Domain and setting it up as local without having to wipe it and lose the activation. Has worked so far.
