Installing win 10 home from usb UEFI or non UEFI?

I will be installing win 10 home on a new ssd drive on a new system. I've read Brink's how to on downloading and installing from a bootable usb.

Should I opt for a UEFI install or non UEFI?
What precautions do I take to make sure my components are compatible with UEFI?
Do I get to choose to format the ssd in GPT during the installation of win 10, or do I have to do that before hand?

Leave the SSD completely unformatted - no partitions or anything. Boot the Windows 10 flash drive in UEFI mode (which is chosen from the boot menu when you pick the flash drive to boot from). Select the custom install open. Highlight the unallocated space on the SSD and click next to let Windows set up the SSD the way it wants to. If you booted the flash drive in UEFI mode, you will get a GPT partitioned SSD. If you booted the flash drive in legacy BIOS (CSM) mode, then the SSD will get partitioned in MBR format.

UEFI / GPT has options for bitlocker, more partitions, etc. and offers overall more options than BIOS / MBR.

Thanks for the answers. Very helpful. To summarize, UEFI/GPT seems to be the preferred way to go.

Should I check the ssd or mother board specs to ensure they will be compatible with UEFI or is that pretty standard with new gear?

I have not bought the components or built the pc yet. Would I check that via the mobo manufacturer's website before buying?

Any motherboard from about the last 5 years is almost guaranteed to be UEFI. And yes, you check the motherboard specs on the manufacturer's website before buying.
