Does a Windows 10, clean install, create the necessary partitions?

AddRAM That seem to be a picture of disk partitions options (possibly for installation) once you have already booted the device you are installing from. My question was about how the original boot device selection seemed to influence the type of partition style that Windows eventually will be installed on.
as far as I can tell, but I have never seen this, as long as bios settings are correct a DVD or USB stick with the install media on it will show up as 2 different devices, one for each type of partition, and that choice determines the outcome.
Someone please correct me if this is wrong.
I am going to help a friend this weekend do a fresh install on a system with UEFI. I have not done an install on that type of system. Like you I have always made a large formatted partition with diskpart from the install media before proceeding so as to only have that one partition and no hidden ones (MBR of course).
But as GPT is being touted as the thing of the future the owner wants to install that way.

You can't do that with UEFI. There has to be a FAT32 EFI System partition, an NTFS partition for Windows and Microsoft claims that there must also be a small Microsoft System Reserved (MSR) partition.

Well there goes my experiment for today, I was gonna make 1 install partition on a GPT drive just as I`ve always done on a MBR drive for W7 and see if W10 would install on it.

    Bang, Zoom

I`ll stick with Legacy and MBR, I`ve seen no great advantage with UEFI yet.

You can still try it and post the results Windows 10 should do 1 of two things, it will either give you an error that it can't create a system partition or it will shrink the partition you made for it to make it's own EFI System Partition. Also, that stupid MSR partition that Microsoft claims is required will not show up in disk management. It will show up in diskpart when you list partitions on the drive, though.

I was just going to say, it`ll probly throw up the "Windows can not be installed to this disk" something to that affect.

@ A Moneli, it looks like you`re just gonna have to install to unallocated space, as Navy stated, but I will conduct my experiment in a bit and post the results.

It is up to you whether you want to install Windows using MBR or GPT and you need to set the option in the BIOS for MBR or GPT style installation.
If you want to use the GPT partition style, you must boot from the Windows installation media in UEFI mode. If you want to use the MBR partition style, you must boot from the Windows installation media in Legacy BIOS mode.

So you`re saying there will be 4 partitions ?

When I installed in UEFI out of boredom a few weeks back I had 3 in DM.

An EFI, A Recovery and W10

Correct :) But only on the correctly initialized drive or to unallocated space. Otherwise you`ll get the dreaded "Windows can not be installed to this disk" etc so many people got that message trying to install 7 on their new UEFI boards.

On an MBR disk, Windows Setup will create a System Reserved partition and a primary Windows partition.

On a GPT disk, Windows Setup will create a Recovery partition, an EFI System partition, a Microsoft Reserved partition (won't show in Disk Management) and a primary Windows partition.
