I need help finding cabling to connect two SSD SATA III for cloning

    Hi everyone,

I am trying to find out the cabling to connect two SATA III drives together so I can clone the SDD in my new Win 10 desktop SDD to the replacement SDD i bought to install in my old win 7 machine so I have a backup PC ready to go.

I am connecting SATA III to SATA III, both are SDD. (Micron M550 to Samsung 860 EVO both 250GB)

All the cloning software you can use assumes the drives are already connected but a newbie like me cannot figure out how to connect the two.

If its a desktop then there should be a few sata ports so each drive goes to a port on the motherboard and you should be good to clone. You are going to clone the win10 disk and stick it in another pc as backup is that correct as its possible that wont work

    Samuria is correct

Yes, had a flash of insite last night, the old PC is an HP and has different integrated video/audio installed on the mother board, which is also different and of course different drivers, etc. so it wont work.

I was trying not to spend the time/aggravation of loading Win 7 into the new replacement SDD for my now backup PC, then trying the Win 10 upgrade and then loading everything else, but I dont see any option. At least I can do this off to the side now as I have my new WIn 10 desktop installed and fully functional.

I could clone the old HDD, but it has so many issues I would not trust a cloned copy, if I could even get it to work long enough or boot up in the first place.

Sorry to make a thread without thinking it thru first.

Pls mark solved or can have admin remove

Windows 10 is very good at moving to different hardware, actually. There are only two real boot stoppers, both of which are easy to deal with:
    UEFI v. Legacy booting
SATA controller mode, AHCI v. IDE v. RAID
