    Installation of Upgrade

    Dear Mr Gates - will you leave my Windows alone please. All the applications that I removed as useless to me are now back again, and one or two wont even let my delete it now. I have just spent a goodly half hour removing candy and other stuff I dont want and still working on it. I am trying to remove one drive now ..............

    I have given up on deleting this stuff as it's too annoying to have to redo the uninstalls.

    I just make sure the surveillance is kept to a minimum.

    currently most of my start menu icons have changed to blank square with an arrow. When I checked it tells me they are unavailable at present as 'windows is working on them' - GET OFF! It even put Office back in which I had deleted.

    @elbmek:
    For one drive: Uninstall OneDrive in Windows 10

    @farrellart & elbmek:
    I feel your pain; There are three tutorials that may help:

    I also saw this in lifehacker: Disable Windows 10 App Updates With This Setting (But Only in Pro)
    I checked and even though I have w10home I have that in my microsoft store settings. It might be because I'm up to build 1903 and MS has relaxed the rules since this article was published in 2015.
    • Click on Start. Scroll down to the MSStore, open the store.
    • Then to the right you'll see the three dots under the X to close. Click on the three dots.
    • When it opens click on Settings.
    • I turned update apps, live tile, and video autoplay off.

    It's an experiment for now to see what happens after I uninstall paradise bay, minecraft, et al. You guys didn't have your build or versions listed so if you're lower than 1903 you may have to go with the tutorials as the first two have registry mods to use and applocker uses a CMD prompt.

    One item I thought about was windows propensity to return some settings to their defaults after most FU's and some CU's so it would pay to check these settings after either of the updates.

    Three months after that Lifehacker article the first feature update to 1511 was released. That Store setting, which was greyed out in the original 1507 Home (10240) was available in 1511 Home (and all builds thereafter). Looks more like it was a bug in 10240 Home rather than a deliberate restriction.

    Thank you for the verification Bree!

    I'm always appreciative of the knowledge you, and a host of other 'ol'timers' can impart to help understand the history of Windows 10.

    I have just updated to 1903 from 1803. Apart from a bsod it seems to be working. However, I cannot get rid of the ENG in the lower right systems tray next to the clock in this version. It used to be you could delete the ENG_US keyboard but can no longer find where it is! Help!

    Hi Mike!

    Maybe this will help: Remove a Language in Windows 10

    But I'm thinking; "How did you end up with an English US version of 1903?" Maybe you'll want to hide the notification until you investigate more: Hide or Show Notification Area Icons on Taskbar in Windows 10 There could be a slight chance that's why your seeing the BSOD.

    If you're used to making back-ups I'd make one before you uninstall the ENG_US. You can use the B/U program you're used to or you can try this, it is the recommended program here at 10Forums: Backup and Restore with Macrium Reflect

    Almost, if @Mike8 just wants to remove a keyboard it's the related tutorial: Add or Remove Keyboard Layouts in Windows 10

    But I'm thinking; "How did you end up with an English US version of 1903?"

    It may be the UK version, but with a US keyboard as well as a UK one. But that would likely have already been there before the upgrade to 1903. I'm wondering how it acquired multiple keyboard too. I know how mine did, I added them deliberately. They shouldn't appear spontaneously.
