Stuck In Set Up Loop After Factory Reset

    Product: Pavillion 550-103na
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-Bit)

So after having an absolute nightmare not being allowed to factory reset, I finally managed to get it to do it by selecting only drives with Windows installed instead of all drives. It seemed to reset OK. But it got worse, now I start the PC, it gets the black screen and the HP logo, it then goes to a blue screen asking for location, click next, it says error and needs an update, click next to connect to WiFi as instructed and it restarts itself and loops back to the first screen asking for location. I don't have an external drive or anything, what can I do to get this set up again? It was bought in 2107 but barely used, it's practically brand new from lack of use so I just don't understand the problem.

According to the Users Guide for your PC, it came with Windows 7 or Windows 8.1. Did you upgrade it to Windows 10 during the free upgrade period? If so, how are you doing a Factory reset? That should put you back to Windows 7 or 8.1, not Windows 10.

The version of Windows 10 indicated in the pictures is very old. I recommend you do a clean install of Windows 10.

Provide some information about your PC first.

How many hard drives? Do you have a SSD as the boot drive?
    How much memory?

When your ready, follow this tutorial: Windows 10 - Clean Install. It has links in it on how to download the latest version of Windows 10 (which is 1903), create a bootable flash drive to install from, etc. It's very complete.

I’m sure it came with windows 10, I’ve never paid for any software and barely used it. Only added updates recommended, and I simply went into recovery and asked to reset as I’m selling the computer. I’ll post photos of what it was before resetting as I took pictures to list it

I can’t post pictures from my phone, have to use my laptop tomorrow. But it’s 8gb RAM 2 Tb memory and I think one drive, whatever was standard. Don’t know how to find out about boot drive either, this was first PC after using apple for years and massively regret it. Version of windows says 1803

Okay, so not a SSD and 1803 is reasonable current (1803, 1809 and 1903).

The Users Manual for Windows 8.1 (nothing for Windows 10) says the following:

    System recovery at system startup
CAUTION: System Recovery deletes all data and programs you have created or installed. Back up any
important data to a removable disc or USB flash drive.
If Windows is not responding, but the computer is working, follow these steps to perform a system recovery:
    1. Turn off the computer. If necessary, press and hold the power button until the computer turns off.
    2. Disconnect all peripheral devices from the computer except the monitor (select models only), keyboard,
    and mouse.
    3. Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    4. As soon as you see the initial company logo screen appear, repeatedly press F11 until the Boot Options
    Menu appears on the screen.
    5. Select Troubleshoot.
    6. Select System Recovery.
    7. Follow the on-screen instructions.
    8. When the recovery is complete, turn off the computer, reconnect all peripheral devices, and then turn
    the computer back on.

Is that what you did? If so I'd try it again.

Don't think that's an option, I turn it on and it goes straight to wanting location and then turning itself off and on again. I had factory reset as follows:

    I go to Recovery>Reset this PC>>remove everything>>all drives>remove files and clean device>

That wasn't working so I changed from selecting all drives to only drives with windows as I assumed the computer only had the pone drive with windows on it. Now I turn the computer on and it wants to set up but loops around before I can even get to WiFi. Going to try ethernet, and then someone suggested getting fresh windows 10 on a USB or DVD form here:

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10

I assume plugging in a USB with that on it and switching it on will prompt the thing to download it all, but I have no idea what it's problem is so I'm not hopeful.

Did you try the steps I showed, power on, tap F11 rpeatedly till the Boot Options Menu appears. This should happen before Windows boots so the state of the current install will not matter.

As to your question about using MCT, did you look at the Windows 10 - Clean Install link I gave you? That is pretty detailed in exactly what to to and how to do it, including using MCT to download and create a flash drive to install from.

Thanks, I can look at that now I'm on a laptop. Here was the screen tapping F11:

Please try powering up and tapping the F9 key. I've seen some people mention that is what they use to get to teh Boot Options Menu.
