How to force Win10 to update from 1803 to 1903?

    I have got a new notebook with a pre-installed Win10 Home v1803.
Now I want to update to (at least) Win10 v1809 or (even better) Win10 v1903.

When I click on button "Check for updates" in the update dialog Win10 tell me
    "You're up to date".

    Hmm, that cannot be.

How can I force Win10 otherwise to update to Win10 v1903 WITHOUT external ISO (like from Media creation tool)?

I have not defined a MS account. Is this required?

    Thank you
    Peter

    Hi there

I think your best bet in this case would be to download the package from UUPDUMP (choose language and Windows version you have) and create the iso --it's done automatically.

Now run the setup.exe from the iso and select keep files / programs if you want to update or choose keep nothing if you want to fresh install -- remember then you *might* need your current serial number if your previous windows wasn't activated with a digital license. If doing an update / upgrade activation won't be a problem.

    UUP dump

    cheers

You are up to date in that you have the latest cumulative update for 1803 (which includes the latest security fixes). Check with Winver to confirm, you should by now be on build 17134.829 (released 11th June 2019).

You can't, MS use machine learning to decide which machines should be offered the feature update. There may be a known blocking issue for your machine, or it could just be that it's not your turn in the phased rollout. Not everyone will be offered it immediately. Having some 3rd-party AVs installed has been known to be one of the blocking issues, if you have one you may want to try uninstalling it.

If that's not your issue and you still want to force it, then an ISO or the Update Assistant are your only options.

No. I have been offered 1903 on machines without an MS account (one of them was on 1803 at the time).

There is nothing much in these version updates, not exactly top priority never mind "better".

You do not need an MS Account, or indeed sign on with one. Local Account no problem.

I would just leave it for some weeks which will allow for analysis data to be sent to MS. You may get additional updates, prerequisites for the next version update.

"You're up to date" refers to your current version 1803.

You can of course download the Windows 10 ISO and stash it away. I do that, but have never actually used it on my Notebook for 6 years.

Using the ISO file is the most reliable method of upgrading. Why do you not want to use the proven most reliable method?

I recommend using this: Update to Latest Version of Windows 10 using Update Assistant

No ISO needed, no USB flash drive, works very much like Windows Update. I used it to go from 1809 to 1903 because I was not being offered 1903. Worked perfectly. When done my system was just like it was before I started except for desktop gadgets which had been removed but a reactivate folder had been placed on the desktop that worked great.

You can always use the other methods if this doesn't work for some reason but I really don't think you'll have any problems.
