Clean install Windows 10 1903 question

I just want to double check on here if you can you definitely use the Media Creation Tool to do a clean installation of Windows 10 version 1903 using a USB flash drive?
There still seems to be quite a bit of confusion as to whether or not there is an issue when flash drives are connected to the PC.
Im asking because I intend to do a complete clean install of 1903 next week if the clean install method is unaffected by the known USB flash drive problem announced by Microsoft. The statement released by Microsoft that I read was unclear about whether the clean install method using a USB flash drive was affected by the problem or not

Hi, linked from the relevant News item
Known issues for Windows 10 May 2019 Update version 1903
here's the MS latest- expand the relevant item
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/win...903#490msgdesc

To safeguard your update experience, we have applied a hold on devices with an external USB device or SD memory card attached from being offered Windows 10, version 1903 until this issue is resolved.

    Affected platforms:

    • Client: Windows 10, version 1903

Workaround: This issue has been partially resolved but to ensure seamless update experience, the safeguard hold is still in place. In the short term, we recommend you do the following workaround to update to Windows 10, version 1903. Remove all external media, such as USB devices and SD cards, from your computer and restart installation of the Windows 10, version 1903 feature update. The update should then proceed normally.

Note If you need to keep your external device, SD memory card, or other devices attached to your computer while updating, we recommend that you do not attempt to manually update to Windows 10, version 1903 using the Update now button or the Media Creation Tool until this issue has been resolved.

Next steps: We are working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release.
There's a long thread on this site on this too.

Hi mate. Both of those links mention that the USB flash problem is there when updating to 1903. It doesn't mention whether the problem also affects a clean installation of 1903 (deleting all partitions etc) using the Media Creation Tool to either create the bootable USB Windows 10 installation media or alternatively using the Media Creation Tool to download the 1903 ISO, mount the iso and then copy all the files over to a USB flash drive prepared with Diskpart

I made a clean install using the latest media creation tool to create a bootable usb drive this morning on a test rig to troubleshoot / cross reference an issue.

It was 1903 and the clean install went very well with no problems at all. I hope this helps.

Why do you think there should be a difference?

Did you note the ref. to an SD card for example? So the issue appears to be the presence of external sotrage media, not how the content was created.

Yeah I saw the reference to SD cards. But Ive also read where people have said that the flash drive issue is not relevant with a clean install. Something to do with drive letters getting messed up when updating to 1903 and problems with installed programmes etc.
Because of these comments along with the explanation that a clean install doesn't have those problems that the 1903 update method has..thats why Ive posted the question to get feedback from other forum members

    Hi,
Clean install should not be effected by the usb bug
Do it without an internet connection doubt you'll run into any issues besides the 3 silly security questions part

Are you saying that an internet connection while clean installing is problematic?

I like to do the clean installation with an internet connection...signing in with a Microsoft Account and doing everything during Setup. Its the way I always do it so I was hoping that it would work smoothly like it always has in the past
