    Installation from 1709 to 1903

My PC is 3 major updates behind. If I use Media Creation tool and install 1903 update using ISO method, any side effects to my system? Would like to seek for advise if running Windows Update is preferable or jumping straight using ISO installation.

I could be wrong, but I don't think 1903 has been released publicly yet. I could be wrong though. If it has, then I will need to do a fresh install on both of mine as well.

I've always jumped straight to the ISO installation. Never had any problems. Windows Update is the most unreliable method there is for installing the major version updates.

1903 is available at the standard MS Windows 10 download site:

Use the Iso method, as mentioned WU is the worst way to update.

So if i created bootable USB, using the Create Windows 10 Media, it'll be 1903?

    - just wonder why that may be.. Bear in mind that MS restricts delivery of feature updates to some older/incompatible PCs. Using an iso circumvents any such protection. On the other hand, if your situation is that Windows Update isn't working (is it?) or that you've simply not used the device, that could be a factor.

Have a look at your Update History in Settings.

Note that with each feature update/build you get a potentially new set of drivers. If your PC is not supported/compatible you run the risk of some issue arising.

Make sure you create a disk image of your current installation before attempting the upgrade. E.g. Macrium reflect (free) + external storage for disk image files. Then you can recover even if your PC is unbootable. This forum frequently advises the routiine use of disk imaging.

Because I've manually turned off the Windows Update. It's only for light and home usage, plus my internet bandwidth is only at 1Mbps speed.

Note too that you could well expect a large update a month or two after 1903's first public release, correcting some issues. Or maybe MS has got it right this time..
