First task I did today after a clean install-clarification needed?

Hi, Ive just clean installed Windows 10 this morning. The first thing I did as soon as I got into Windows was to check for windows updates so as to get my system right up to date. There were quite a few windows updates, several drivers and windows defender updates etc listed. Windows started downloading everything. After about an hour or more I got a message on screen saying Windows was busy downloading other updates so was unable to install the updates that were ready and that a Restart may help. It also said that Windows was going to keep retrying to install them. There was a Retry button immediately below the message too so I tried that first and then several updates got installed. The same message appeared on screen again several minutes later. So once again I clicked on the Retry button and more updates were then installed. Finally I got to a screen where there were just three updates left and then it said a restart was required so after a Restart that finished installing all the Windows Updates.
My question is....What is the correct procedure when I got the message on screen saying Windows was still downloading other updates so it was unable to install the updates that were ready and that a Restart may help along with a Retry button directly underneath the message. . Do you Click on the Retry button first or go directly to Restart the PC? I wasn't sure what to do?

In most cases, Restart is the right call, many cumulative updates need to be applied sequentially, often with a reboot or two between.

Does that mean that Ive messed the Windows Updates up or I might have corrupted them? The way that the message read was that a restart might help. It also said that Windows was going to keep retrying. That is what made me click on the Retry button. I thought if it was a compulsory restart it would have said that rather than it being a suggestion. My thinking was if the Retry button doesn't work then I would have restarted my PC. Ive checked the Windows Update history and all updates are showing as successfully installed. None of them are showing as failed. And in Reliability History there aren't any failed Windows Updates listed there either. Is it looking like I'll have to start over again with another clean install of Windows 10? What do you think?

You should be fine since you eventually got them all installed. See what happens with the next Feature Update to 1903 in a week or two.

That the update to 1903 would come through in a week or two! Most people are still waiting for 1809, unless they upgraded manually.
