    Hi @werty
    I update the BIOS on my Inspiron 1545 laptop by simply following the instructions on this page which is basically the following bearing in mind that it is a BIOS and not EUFI!;
The file 1545_A14.EXE (is the latest BIOS) is using the Hard Drive format and is designed to be directly executed from Windows

      1. Click Download now.
        The File Download window appears.
      2. Click the Save button.
        The Save As window appears.
      3. Select Desktop using the drop-down menu to the right of Save in.
      4. Click the Save button.
A progress meter moves as the download is completed.

If necessary, click X in the upper right-hand corner of the Download
    Progress Window
    to close it upon completion.
NOTE: Shut down all other applications prior to running the BIOS update utility. The update utility reboots your system in order to get the new BIOS loaded.

Double click the Icon on your desktop labelled 1545_A14.EXE.
The Dell Bios Flash window appears

    1. Click the Continue button.
The message Pressing OK will close all applications, shut down
Windows, Flash the BIOS, then reboot.
      appears.
    2. Click the OK button.

The system will restart and the Bios Flash will be completed.
    Hope this helps.

    Edit:
    Backup your data
Power the pc with the power pack not battery
If you have Windows Pro you need to suspend BITLOCKER

... I saw that you successfully updated the bios. Can you tell me how did you do that ...
The latest bios is version A14 dated 27 April 2010.

Are you sure you need to do this?

I'll change the motherboard and it will probably come with an outdated bios - that's why I asked.

You are going to fork out real money for a ten+ year old motherboard?

Wouldn't a new computer be cheaper & better?

😁😁😁 I bought it from AliExpress for like 30$ so it's much less than buying a new pc plus this old dog is still doing good for everyday tasks:
    CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo T9600 - 2,80 GHz - for 10$ from Ali
Added additional SSD 480 GB - it's the part that I spent more money - around 80$
And it's running pretty well and I just like to experiment 😁
