This question must have been asked before thousands of times but cannot find the answer my apologise!
I have been asked to upgrade a pc from Win 7 to Win 10 home but I would like to know If there still is an application that will check the compatibility of all existing hardware and software in a Win 7 Home PC before beginning an upgrade to Win 10?
If you are using Windows 7 SP1, use the Windows 10 upgrade checker [GWX]. And review the Windows 10 System requirements.
In addition to providing information about the chances of a successful installation, the compatibility report will alert you to any hardware components that you will need to pay attention to afterwards. See Compatibility report for Windows 10 FAQ - Windows Help

I would also recommend you use a tool like Macrium Reflect and Image your system before updating.
If things head south you can simply restore. Software is free, reliable and used by members. What ever imaging tool you use create and test their boot media.

Thank you @Try3 for your suggestions. The Windows 10 upgrade checker [GWX] link just takes me to the page to Download Windows 10, I was more interested if there was a program before starting to downloading the upgrade as there was back then when Microsoft first released the notification to upgrade to Windows 10.
@Caledon Ken thanks for your input. I never update or upgrade a pc without first using Macrium of which I am a fond user.

By the way, you do not need to write@Try3or@Caledon Ken. Because we have posted in this thread, we get notifications just as you do. Using the @ symbol with our usernames means that there is also a notification at the top of the page when we come to the forum and it takes a couple of clicks to find out what it is for so it is just time wasted when we could otherwise come straight to your thread.

Thanks Denis. I now know how to run GWX upgrade checker, wasn't sure what the Update Now button exactly did. It just downloaded a compressed Windows 10 Update Assistant. I use Internet Download Manager as shown on the screenshot below.
Point taken about the use of @ before a name, something that I have also learned to day.
I think you are saying that your download manager must have been redirecting you? Can't it be told to obey orders?
The zip file I posted [and that it seems to have downloaded for you] contains exactly the same GWXWebWindows.exe that you would have got by downloading it directly using my link.

I downloaded GWXWebWindows.exe from your link. Running it just opens the default browser at: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=535012
What Bree says is correct, that link just opens Windows 10 Download page, you then need to click on the Update Now button to download the GWXWebWindows.exe
