Upgrading SSD in my notebook using 2 year old media

Hi..

I'm upgrading the SSD in my Dell notebook from a 256 to a 500gb. I created a bootable thumb drive using the Media Creation Tool about 2~ years ago.. Wondering if it will still grab any updates during the install, or if I should create a new one. I know the obvious answer is to create a new one, but I'm still curious if the older one would work and once installed, update to the latest revision..

If you use the old one which will be 4 version behind it could take forever to update on its own and multi times. Get the latest job done. You could wait a week or so for may update and save a few hours in updating

Yes, the sensible option is to make a new one. But to satisfy your curiosity, yes you could use the old one. In fact, I recently used an original one from 2015 to upgrade from Win7 to the very first release of Windows 10. It then (if memory serves) started to download the Features update to 1803. I manually upgraded it to 1809 before that completed. I had my reasons for wanting to do a 2-step upgrade (some installed software that would have been removed by an upgrade straight to 1809).

Do the sensible thing, download the latest MCT and make new install media. It will save time (and multiple updates) in the end.
