It was Vista. Thanks for posting. I had a severe heart attack recently which has knocked me over as far as being busy and on top of that my AMD is getting so bad that it's a strain to even look at a computer screen for too long.

Glad to see you posting when you can and very glad you survived your heart attack.

@zbook - your post #2 is quite a tall order for an oldie like me, but I will try. Forgive me if things are answered in several posts.

1) What's happening now that you are troubleshooting the failed upgrades? A: I can’t get 1803 or 1809 to install and according to an MVP I talked to, Microsoft are getting very sloppy which is not surprising tome (as an ex-MVP). This is serious because MS themselves ignore reports we send to them and tell us that our “out-of-date” systems are now unsupported, or will be soon. I’m well acquainted with the trouble the 1809 update caused when first issued. MS fixed whatever that was but failed to fix everything.
2) What troubleshooting steps were done in 2017 and 2018? A: None as Windows had no problems updating as far as 1709
3) What are the status of the important computer files? backed up? A: I have some backups
4) Had you considered a clean install or a reset save files? A: I already did that, it didn’t help.

5) Open disk management > by default columns are compressed > widen each Status and Volume > make sure the contents within the parenthesis are in full view and that none of the characters are cut off > check the contents of the disk 0 row and make sure that none of the characters are cut off > post an image into the thread

6) Open device manager > click view > click show hidden devices > manually expand all rows > look for any row displaying a yellow triangle with black exclamation mark or unknown device > post images into the thread

7) Uninstall the Canon printer and any other printers A: Done but it’ll have to be reinstalled soon as it’s my only printer and fax machine. It ‘s recent model so fully Win 10 compatible.
8) Uninstall Mcafee AV using the applicable uninstall tool:

A: As an ex-McAfee forums administrator I can tell you that the big AV companies are very unfairly criticised. That said, it is not installed on either of my Win 10's.


9) Make sure Windows defender is on A: Confirmed on.

10) List all non-Microsoft AV software used since the last successful Windows upgrade (always on and manual) only A: Malwarebytes Pro but only on Win 7 and only when I activate it to do a scan.
11) List all non-Microsoft drive encryption software used since the last successful Windows upgrade A: None

12) List all non-Microsoft firewall software used since the last successful Windows upgrade A: McAfee only on Win 7, WD on both Win 10's.


13) Open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:

15) dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

Will answer tomorrow. I had a very long response all ready to post and it refused saying message too short, how ridiculous.
I am now very tired and have a splitting headache.
Suffice it to know that I have tried a clean install with the 1809 ISO burned to a DVD and even that failed.
Why aren't the MVP's here and elsewhere telling MS to clean up their act?

A: Already done, do you really want me to it all again? The only time Windows did a 3-stage reapair of the File System was after one of these failed updates.
